Red Dead Redemption 2 Might be Heading to Mexico in a Future DLC

Red Dead Redemption 2 has now been available for over a year, and Rockstar continue to provide new DLC and free content offerings on a consistent basis. Indeed, the studio recently released both new Story Mode updates and a Photo Mode. Evidently, more content is on the way for the foreseeable future, and a new leak points to a very interesting possibility; that a future Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC may take players to Mexico.

The New Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC Leak

The Red Dead series is, of course, no stranger to a Mexican setting. After all, much of the first game took place in the country. However, the second game eschews featuring Mexico at any point, although players do make one sojourn to the Caribbean. However, the results of a recent datamine have revealed what appears to be work-in-progress content for a Mexican setting.

Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC Mexico Leak

This data was revealed on the GTA Forums by a user who goes by VideoTech UK. By digging through the v1.0 files of Red Dead Redemption 2, they were able to find a variety of 3D models which don’t actually appear in-game. While these are clearly unfinished, they do seem to depict parts of a setting in Mexico. However, it’s unclear what these models were meant to be for. Given that the models were in the game at launch, they are likely something that was cut before release. Perhaps Rockstar had plans to feature Mexico in the game at one stage, but ended up cutting that section for one reason or another?

If that is the case, then it’s possible that content which was cut before release could eventually be repackaged as DLC. Indeed, a return to Mexico would certainly make sense for the series, and would likely be popular among long-term fans. However, Rockstar has not yet indicated that they have any single-player DLC plans for Red Dead Redemption 2. This doesn’t necessarily rule Mexico out, of course; it could still feature in Red Dead Online, perhaps as an expansion to the existing open world area. Whatever the case, fans will have to wait and see what the future holds.
