13 Minutes of Borderlands 3 DLC Gameplay Revealed by Gearbox

Recently revealed by Gearbox, Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is to be the first story DLC for Borderlands 3, and is due to release later this month. Now, following the release of its official trailer, Gearbox has released 13 minutes of gameplay showing what players can expect in the Borderlands 3 DLC’s opening sequence. It features new enemies, a new setting, and of course, Handsome Jack!

Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot: Borderlands 3 DLC Gameplay

Due to launch on the 19th of December, Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot will bring an all-new destination to Borderlands 3; a massive Hyperion space station casino built by Handsome Jack. With Jack long-dead, this casino has been in lockdown, and Moxxi is sending the player in to take it over. While much of the upcoming Borderlands 3 DLC is still under wraps, this new video reveals what players will experience in the DLC’s first few minutes.

Most notably, the video does confirm the return of Handsome Jack, in a sense. Jack is definitely dead, however, and the AI version of him in Tales From the Borderlands was presumably destroyed. As such, he won’t be returning as a character per se. Instead, the casino features numerous holographic messages and recordings featuring the former Hyperion tyrant. As such, fans who were hoping to see more of the iconic villain in this DLC are in luck.

The video also gives fans a glimpse of the Hyperion Loader Bots which are returning to Borderlands as enemies. These robots were a mainstay of Borderlands 2, serving as Jack’s primary minions. However, given that Hyperion itself is long gone, they did not feature at all in Borderlands 3. Instead, players faced off against the soldiers and robots of the Maliwan corporation, among other foes. Loader bots and other classic Hyperion robotic enemies will be returning in the new DLC as automated guards of the casino. However, the casino will also feature plenty of human enemies; presumably the people who have been trapped inside for seven years. Indeed, the trailer shows that these enemies are largely similar to the game’s standard bandits, although with alternate names.
