2K Football Games to Include NFL Players Thanks to Partnership With OneTeam, NFLPA

Football video game fans take notice, as there may soon be some competition for the popular Madden series. A new partnership formed between 2K, OneTeam Partners and the NFL Players Association is going to help bring NFL players into 2K football games. The announcement was just revealed, giving some interesting possibilities for the future.

2K partners with OneTeam Partners and NFLPA

We first learned of 2K’s involvement in football games five months ago, but now things are getting interesting. A new partnership, brokered by OneTeam Partners brings together the NFL Players Association and 2K. A recent announcement on the NFLPA website brought news of the exciting partnership.

Right now, there are no specific financial terms given for the deal. However, it will involve “multiple football games in development.” It’s believed this will give players “more marketing opportunities” based on NFLPA’s tweet.

2K President David Ismailer commented on the partnership.

We’re thrilled to be working with the NFLPA and OneTeam to bring the biggest and best stars in football to the games we’re working on.

“We want to give fans experiences that are authentic, memorable and fun, and having a roster of real-life sports heroes through the Players Association and OneTeam is a huge part of delivering on that promise.

Based on the announcement, the partnership will allow 2K football games to feature over 2,000 current player names, numbers, images, and likenesses. That opens up the possibilities, but what should fans expect to see?

2K Football games to be ‘non-simulation’

The interesting aspect of the ongoing news about 2K football games is that they will be non-simulation titles. With EA’s Madden 21 and previous games in the franchise, fans are able to simulate football games to be similar to what NFL experiences are like. That won’t be the case with 2K’s titles.

That said, we’ve recently reported on Madden 21 rumors about The Yard. Much like Superstar KO mode, this will be a departure from the traditional simulation experience. 2K football games could very well have something similar in store, involving a more arcade-like style of football. 2K unveiled a new WWE 2K Battleground game over the past several months.

Even so, the possibilities for what 2K brings to the table for current-gen, and next-gen consoles should have fans excited. Per the announcement, 2K football games should begin to launch next year.

The last football title released by 2K was 2004’s ESPN NFL 2K5. So far there are no specific titles, release dates, or developers announced for their upcoming games.
