Bethesda has announced four different ways in which fans can purchase Fallout 76. Of course, they can simply buy the game. Then, there are also three different collector’s editions; the Tricentennial Edition, the Platinum Edition, and the Power Armour Edition. Lately, the Platinum Edition has been causing some consternation among fans because while the bundle includes a variety of impressive collectible merchandise… it doesn’t actually include a copy of Fallout 76.
The Fallout 76 Platinum Edition: Lots of Collectible Merch, No Actual Game
The confusion stems from a misunderstanding. Although the Platinum Edition is named as an “Edition,” like the Tricentennial Edition and Power Armour Edition, it’s actually a very different sort of item. The full produce name, as given on Bethesda’s website, is Fallout 76 Platinum Edition Prima Guide, and therein lies the problem. The Fallout 76 Platinum Edition isn’t actually an edition of the game. Rather, it’s an edition of the Fallout 76 game guide. The bundle is retailing for $115.00 and is currently available to pre-order.
The Platinum Edition comes with a wide variety of items. Firstly, it comes with the actual hardcover Collector’s Edition Guide for Fallout 76, with an alternate cover and endsheets, along with a ribbon bookmark. Players can only get this version of the game guide by acquiring this edition. Purchasers also gain the guide’s digital version, which can be unlocked with a free code on the November 14th. In addition to the guides, the Platinum Edition contains a collector’s case, a series of three mini-journals, an Appalachia Regional Postcard pack, drinks coasters, and a double-sided map poster measuring 22.5″ by 36″.
The map is a useful tool in its own right. It details the locations of over 850 in-game sites. The Platinum Edition will launch of the 14th of November. Although it doesn’t actually contain a copy of Fallout 76, it’s certainly an impressive collector’s edition nonetheless.
