Apex Legends Could Soon Get a New Capture-Style Game Mode

With the launch of the latest season of Apex Legends, Respawn released the first-ever permanent alternate game mode. Apex Legends Arenas is a round-based 3v3 mode designed for much smaller maps, offering players a totally different gameplay experience. Now, however, a leak suggests that another small-scale mode is currently in the works.

Leaked Plans for an Apex Legends ‘Capture’ Game Mode?

Until the launch of Apex Legends Arenas, Respawn had never added a new game mode to Apex on a permanent basis. Nor had the developers ever made such a small-scale mode available to play. Since its release, Arenas has seemingly proven very popular; a new map featuring Skull Town from Kings Canyon is now available as part of the Genesis Collection Event.

Apex Legends Capture Game Mode Leak 2

According to a recent leak, players may soon have another team-based game mode to play in Apex Legends; a “Capture” mode which focuses on capturing objective sites around a map. This leaked info comes from a user who goes by Shrugtal – a fairly well-known leaker in the Apex fan community whose leaks have often proven accurate. According to their leak, Respawn implemented code into Apex Legends with the 9.1 update for a game mode titled ‘Capture’. This mode is not yet fully-implemented, but is being designed for a section of the Olympus map.

Shrugtal draws the comparison with Call of Duty’s Domination game mode, which seems to be very similar. Essentially, two teams of players will compete to capture and hold several objective sites around the map. Players will also reportedly be able to spawn in Tridents from special ‘Parking Pads’. (Thus allowing for rapid travel between points.) Its unique map is apparently larger than the standard Arenas maps, indicating that it may be designed for larger than 3v3 gameplay. Indeed, it may be for teams closer to 6v6, just like Domination.

Of course, Respawn has not clarified one way or another whether the leak is accurate, and it’s impossible to know for sure either way. As such, fans should take the info with a grain of salt. (It’s possible, for example, that even if this is a mode currently in development, that it may change significantly before release or be abandoned.) However, for now, it looks likely that Respawn is planning to expand on the Arenas format in the near future.
