Call of Duty: Vanguard Releases Action-Packed Multiplayer Trailer

Fans haven’t had to wait very long since those on PlayStation got their first chance to experience Call of Duty: Vanguard for themselves in the game’s first Alpha event, as today, Activision and Sledgehammer Games released the official reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Vanguard Multiplayer. The action-packed trailer showcases the sort of frenetic, close-quarters combat players can expect, as well as many of the playable Operators.

The Call of Duty: Vanguard Multiplayer Reveal Trailer

Call of Duty: Vanguard is due to release on the 5th of November. However, players won’t have to wait nearly that long if they want to try the upcoming game out for themselves. The first Beta weekend is due to begin later this week, on the 10th of September, for PlayStation Early-Access users. Next week, on the 16th, it will open for Early Access on other platforms (and to the public on PlayStation), before opening to the public on Xbox and PC on the 18th. That event will give many players the chance to experience Vanguard’s multiplayer for themselves, with five available game modes.

What today’s trailer makes clear is that Sledgehammer isn’t deviating far from the established formula when it comes to Vanguard multiplayer. While the setting may be moving decades into the past, combat is likely to feel familiar to anybody who’s played the last few Call of Duty titles. The game’s Multiplayer component will evidently focus on frenetic, relatively close-quarters combat; principally for 6v6 or 12v12 teams, etc. Indeed, Champion Hill, which was available in the Alpha too, is a new Gunfight spin-off for 2v2. (Larger-scale combat is still provided for by Call of Duty: Warzone, after all.)

Of course, there will be a few new features in Vanguard. The level of destructible environments, for example, appears to have increased significantly over Black Ops Cold War. The customisation system too, while not radically different, will include new options and features on top of the existing ones.

The other aspect which will remain familiar in Vanguard multiplayer is Call of Duty’s approach to Operators. For the last few games, players have been able to play as distinct, named characters called “Operators”. In Vanguard, the Operators will reportedly be among the first proto-Special-Forces recruits as that style of warfare first develops. Some of these characters feature prominently in the trailer, while four will be playable in the single-player campaign.
