September 6 Nintendo Direct Delayed Due to Earthquake in Japan

We regret to inform you that the September 6 Nintendo Direct that was scheduled to go live later today has been officially delayed by Nintendo due to an earthquake that occurred in Hokkaido, Japan early on Thursday. The announcement was made on the official Nintendo of America very early this morning similar to the initial announcement of the Direct. The stream that was already live ahead of the presentation has been removed.

As of right now, the upcoming September Nintendo Direct has not been rescheduled and all we know is that we will see it in the “near future.” It remains to be seen how the delayed Direct will affect any of the announcements like, for instance, if there was going to be any games that would release right after the presentation later today as has been the case in the last couple of showcases from Nintendo.

You can find the full official statement from Nintendo of America regarding the Nintendo Direct delay and the earthquake in the northern island of Hokkaido below:

“Due to the powerful earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan, we have decided to delay this week’s planned Nintendo Direct. We will provide a new time and date in the near future. Thank you for your understanding.”

The earthquake that struck Hokkaido, Japan had a preliminary magnitude of 6.7 when it struck early on Thursday, September 6, 2018. The earthquake left more than three million residents without power. Our hearts go out to all of those who were affected by the earthquake as well as the recent typhoon in western Japan.

We hope that fans are understanding in this matter, as we are sure that Nintendo will reschedule the delayed Nintendo Direct for very soon. In the meantime, though, the discussions surrounding what will be shown at the Direct continue. You can find VGR’s predictions and pie-in-the-sky wishes for the Direct right here.
