A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Infected Game Mode is Now Available

As part of the continuing Season One content schedule, Infinity Ward has launched a brand-new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Infected game mode. This elimination-style mode is, as you might expect, very fast-paced, as one powerful Infected player works to infect the other survivors. Not only is the Infected much faster than normal, but they’re armed with a melee weapon that kills in a single hit!

The New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Infected Mode

When you load into a match of the new Modern Warfare Infected mode, a timer will quickly count down to an “outbreak,” at which point one player is chosen at random as the Infected. That player then has two-and-a-half minutes to infect the rest of the Survivors. Every time they successfully infect another player, an extra thirty seconds adds to that timer. The Survivors, meanwhile, merely need to stay alive and uninfected until time runs out. Initially, the Survivors don’t have any special advantages. However, the final uninfected Survivor does get frequent radar pings so that they can see the Infected coming.

The Infected mode also features its own points system for both the Infected and Survivors. Survivors earn points by eliminating Infected players, while the Infected earn points for infecting Survivors. Additionally, every time a new player falls to the infection, it starts a “wave”. If a Survivor can survive a “wave,” by staying alive until the infection of another player, they’ll also earn points. The points affect the overall leaderboard and also grant XP.

At present, this new mode is available in several of Modern Warfare’s maps, including Crash, Hackney Yard, and Rammaza. Generally, Infected maps are smaller maps which favour close-quarters engagements; increasing the tension as the Survivors have to work together to fend off ambushes. Indeed, it’s worth remembering that working together is your best chance for survival, or for bringing down the Survivors. If the Survivors can band together early, before too many players have joined the Infected, they can make use of the advantage of numbers. Of course, this gets progressively more difficult as each player becomes Infected and the numbers swing the other way.
