Creative Assembly Announces Total War: Three Kingdoms Mod Support

Total War: Three Kingdoms has now been out for well over a month. However, the game hasn’t offered any support for modding, despite Creative Assembly often saying that they would eventually provide modders with the tools for it. Yesterday, however, the studio finally announced the launch of Total War: Three Kingdoms mod support. This includes the release of a new Assembly Kit and support for the game in Steam Workshop.

“We know that modding is an important part of the Total War community,” reads a blog posted on the Total War website to announce the launch; “and so we’re happy to officially announce the release of the Assembly Kit and Steam Workshop support for Total War: Three Kingdoms.”

Total War Three Kingdoms Mod Support Announced

Just as with previous Total War games, modders will be able to make and release mods in Steam Workshop. The Total War launcher also features an in-built mod manager to help streamline mods for players. It allows gamers to manage exactly which mods are turned on or off every time they boot up the game. According to Creative Assembly, modders will find that the Assembly Kit is relatively similar to previous iterations. The studio has reportedly tested the Assembly Kit very thoroughly to ensure its stability and usability.

All told, modders will be able to mod campaign start positions, database tables, battle maps, character portraits, custom models and animations, and even more. However, certain parts of the game are currently mot moddable. These include the campaign battle maps and map hexes, audio files, and game code. Additionally, modders won’t be able to create new audio files, composite scenes, prefabs, and VFX for use as battle assets. “We’d like to remind mod authors that we will be curating the workshop,” warns Creative Assembly; “and remove any mods that breach the modding terms found in the game’s EULA.
