Following the launch earlier this week of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 5, Activision has announced another Free Access Multiplayer weekend. Like previous free weekends, the event offers players who don’t own Modern Warfare a chance to try out some of its core multiplayer for free. This event will be starting tomorrow, on the 7th of August.
The Next Modern Warfare Free Access Weekend
The Season 5 Modern Warfare “Free Access Multiplayer Extended Weekend,” as the full title reads, officially starts at 10:00 AM PST on Friday the 7th of August. It will end five days later, at the same time on Wednesday the 12th. Longer than previous events, it gives players free access to some of Modern Warfare’s multiplayer modes and maps for almost a full week!

During this event, any gamer will be able to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, even if they don’t already own the game. However, the event doesn’t grant full access. You won’t be able to play the single-player story campaign, for example, or the co-op missions. The event specifically grants access solely to the game’s standard multiplayer, featuring a selection of different maps and a playlist of modes. This “map mosh pit” playlist will reportedly feature both deathmatch and objective-based game modes.
Like previous Free Access Weekends which Activision has run, this event serves to market the new Season 5 content to some extent; among the five maps which will be playable for free users will be Petrov Oil Rig and Suldal Harbour, two of the new maps added in Season 5. This mirrors past Free Access events, which have also featured newly-added maps. Of course, since the event doesn’t grant access to either the Gunfight or Ground War modes, the other two new maps won’t be available. (Unless you own the full game, of course.)
