New Anti-Cheating Measures Launch in Modern Warfare & Warzone

Over the course of the last couple of weeks, Infinity Ward has become much more public with how they are responding to the issue of cheating in both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone. The studio recently revealed that they had banned over 70,000 accounts, for instance. Today, Infinity Ward implemented a series of new anti-cheating measures; something which they had previously indicated was in the works.

Infinity Ward’s New Anti-Cheating Measures

The first of these new policies is relatively small, but could be a good long-term addition. Starting this week, if players report a cheater in Modern Warfare or Warzone, Infinity Ward will send them a confirmation when the cheater has been banned. Although this initial policy doesn’t necessarily change the studio’s anti-cheating system much, it does mean that players will know for sure that their reports are being acted upon. This is probably being done for the same reason that Infinity Ward revealed how many accounts they had banned; combating the misperception that they weren’t doing enough to address cheating.

In addition to this change, however, Infinity Ward is also implementing several new improvements. The studio has reportedly; “deployed additional dedicated security updates,” for instance. Plus, a new matchmaking update will aim to match players suspected of cheating together, keeping them away from other players. Finally, the studio has apparently increased the resources dedicated to combating cheating. These cover; “backend tech, studio, and enforcement teams.”

Of course, anti-cheating measures in any big game like Modern Warfare or Warzone is an ongoing battle. As such, the studio has even more measures planned to arrive in the near future. According to Infinity Ward, the ability to report players in the games’ killcam and spectate modes is coming soon. A firm release date has yet to be announced. However, given the timeline thus far, this functionality is likely to arrive in the next couple of weeks.
