Earlier today, Apex Legends finally launched on the Nintendo Switch, and alongside that long-awaited release, Respawn also began a new event; Chaos Theory. The first Collection Event of Season 8, Chaos Theory features a Caustic Town Takeover, a new game mode, and much more.
Apex Legends Chaos Theory Collection Event
The headline feature of the new Chaos Theory Collection Event is certainly Caustic Treatment, the new Town Takeover which has been added to Kings Canyon. Replacing the old Water Treatment site, Caustic Treatment is a much more noxious location. Here, players can get their hands on valuable gold loot items, but only by braving the toxic pools within. Needless to say, Caustic Treatment is likely to become a hotspot for early-game fighting as players rush to reach the loot first.

Chaos Theory features another “Takeover” too, although in this case it’s a takeover of the Play Apex playlist. Ring Fury is an all-new game mode which replaces standard Apex matches during Chaos Theory. In this mode, Ring Flares will occasionally appear within the safe zone; small zones which function just like the outside of the Ring. These bubbles will slowly expand, posing an extra hazard to players. Furthermore, as Chaos Theory progresses over the next two weeks, Respawn will be gradually increasing the number of Ring Flares per match.
Fortunately for players, a new item is now available to help them deal with the dangers of the Ring; the Heat Shield. Launching as part of Chaos Theory, Heat Shields will remain in the game once the event ends. They occupy a new inventory slot and can be thrown down to provide a temporary static bubble. Within this area all damage from the Ring is blocked. Furthermore, if you’re outside the Ring, the Heat Shield provides a huge boost to the speed of revives and healing.
Of course, despite these big new features, Chaos Theory is still a Collection Event. As such, that means a whole selection of new cosmetics. There are 24 items available in total, as per usual, through either direct purchase or Event Packs. Players who collect all 24 before the end of the event will unlock the Bangalore Heirloom set.
