Apex Legends “Fight Night” Reveals the Backstory of Pathfinder

The latest episode of Stories From the Outlands, ‘Fight Night,’ is unlike any that have come before. Delving into the backstory of Apex Legends‘ Pathfinder, the new episode takes a much more humorous tone; casting Pathfinder in a noir-inspired conspiracy story which hints at – but doesn’t reveal – their true purpose.

Stories From the Outlands – “Fight Night”

Unlike the last episode of Stories From the Outlands to feature one of the game’s original characters, ‘Fight Night’ doesn’t have an accompanying event or other in-game release. However, if Respawn doesn’t release a Pathfinder skin based on their crime noir outfit in this episode, they’ll definitely have missed an opportunity!

The 8-minute episode, taken from Pathfinder’s past before they joined the Apex Games, shows the MRVN being fired from a string of jobs due to bad luck, poor timing, or incompetence. While working as a waiter, Pathfinder becomes embroiled in a clash between gangsters and a former detective; both of whom want the robot for different reasons. In the latter case, it’s because Pathfinder was a witness to crimes committed by a criminal known as Nox. (A figure who bears a notable resemblence to Caustic…).

This certainly could be hinting at a follow-up Stories From the Outlands episode about Caustic’s past as a hired killer. However, the files stored in Pathfinder – which, interestingly, show that the robot witnessed Revenant murdering Loba’s parents – also contain a recording from Pathfinder’s mysterious creator.

Ultimately, Respawn doesn’t reveal Pathfinder’s original purpose. However, the recording does reveal the name “Pathfinder” and hint that the robot has a hidden purpose. The cinematic doesn’t detail how Pathfinder came to join the Apex Games though, leaving plenty of room for more storytelling in the future. With Apex Legends Season 7 coming to an end relatively soon, fans may be able to look forward to another Stories From the Outlands episode in the not too distant future. (Assuming that Season 8 does indeed introduce a new character.)
