How the New Apex Legends Iron Crown Collection Event Actually Works

Last week, Respawn announced the Apex Legends Iron Crown Collection Event. However, the studio revealed almost nothing about what the event actually was or what it would include. (Other than it would coincide with the first trial of an Apex Legends Solos mode.) Now, with the launch of the event, Respawn has actually explained what it is and how it works.

The Apex Legends Iron Crown Collection Event

The Iron Crown Collection Event seems to be the first major event to take place during Apex Legends Season 2, and features several different things. Firstly, it features the aforementioned Solos mode, though only for a limited time. Indeed, this is most likely an attempt by Respawn to test the waters and see how players react to Solos, and to test out how it works in practice. If it goes well, it could very well return in a more permanent fashion in the future.

The second feature of the Iron Crown Collection Event is something called the Octane Town Takeover. “Octane has taken over part of Kings Canyon and done a bit of remodelling to better suit his adrenaline-seeking tendencies,” explains Lee Horn, the game’s Director of Product Management; “Check out the mega jump pad course and Ring of Fire to eliminate enemy squads in style”. According to Horn, this is an attempt by the developers to have Kings Canyon better reflect the Legends’ personalities. Plus, this redesign will remain after the event ends.

Next up, the Collection Event allows players to earn themed ‘Iron Crown Collection Packs’ during the event. These have a 50% chance of containing an Epic item, and a 50% chance of holding a Legendary item; all drawn from a pool of 24 themed items. These packs won’t contain any Common, Rare, or duplicate items. If you manage to unlock all 24 items, you’ll be able to get Bloodhoud’s Heirloom Set using Apex Coins. (This set will go into the Apex Pack bonus pool when the event ends.) Alongside these is a new currency called Crowns. These can be earned from the Collection Packs and from completing challenges during the event. You can spend crowns in the Event Store to get Rare, Epic, and Legendary items themed to the event.
