Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Officially Announced By Ubisoft

The recent leaks of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey through Walmart, prior rumors and yesterday’s key-ring fiasco have led Ubisoft to officially announce its existence with a 5 second teaser trailer on Twitter this morning. The game is set in Ancient Greece and seems to focus on the Spartans, as its logo features a Spartan helmet and the teaser seems to be a nod to the infamous kick from Zack Snyder’s “300” in which Spartacus kicks a Persian messenger down to his death.

The game has had little revealed about it, except the confirmation of its existence and the rumors that it will be a sequel to last year’s Assassin’s Creed Origins. It will of course be shown in greater detail at this year’s Ubisoft E3 Press Conference in June, presented by the “See You at E3!” caption under the logo. This joins many games this month that have been forced to announce their existence due to a leak – it follows RAGE 2, LEGO DC Super-Villains and more.

Of course, rumors have been circulating for a while about Odyssey’s existence – however no actual gameplay has been leaked, unlike Origins prior to its announcement. We’ll have to wait and see what Ubisoft has in store for us at E3. Kotaku claim that Odyssey will be “even more of a drastic departure for the series than Origins” in relation to gameplay mechanics – according to their sources, there will be dialogue options and a gender-customizable protagonist.

According to multiple outlets and sources, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is aiming for a launch before the end of Ubisoft’s 2019 fiscal year, which ends March 31st, 2019. This leaves the game at a likely Fall 2018 launch, which isn’t surprising but might hurt the series, which seems to be returning to its annual title schedule. The last game, Origins, had been a major step up from previous installments due to it having more development time, so who knows whether or not Odyssey will suffer from bugs and rushed development, as many other Assassin’s Creed titles have.

Ubisoft have not provided any assets or a press release for the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, so we know nothing about the title as of yet, and are left to rumors from sources. Our only confirmed information is that it is called Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and will be set in Ancient Greece.
