Battlefield 5 Defying the Odds Trailer Reveals Tons of New Content

As Battlefield 5’s third Tides of War chapter draws to a close, DICE has released an action-packed new trailer for Chapter 4; Defying the Odds! Chapter 4 is the first chapter to follow the the three chapters which were originally announced with the game. It will add a huge amount of new content, including no fewer than three new maps! Plus, it ends with a dramatic teaser of things to come…

What’s Revealed in the Battlefield 5 Defying the Odds Trailer

The first piece of new content highlighted in the Battlefield 5 Defying the Odds trailer is the first new map; Provence, which is set in a French town. The trailer moves quickly, however, to the second map; Lofoten Islands. This map bears a resemblance to the game’s massive Firestorm map in places. However, it is, of course, likely to be much smaller. The third map is the game’s second Mediterranean map, following the recent release of Mercury. This is Marita. Whereas Mercury was bright white, blue, and green, Marita is dominated by an autumnal palette, giving it a very different look. Marita is the only one of the new maps which had been revealed prior to the trailer’s release, although it hadn’t been shown yet.

The final new map is Al Sundan, which appears to be set somewhere in the Middle East. It appears to emphasise the use of aircraft, but we don’t know exactly how large it will be. The next big new content update is coming in October 2019, and is being called “Operation Underground.” This appears to be a fast-paced, close-quarters game mode which takes place in an underground metro map. This would be a huge deviation from Battlefield’s maps so far, all of which have been set in large open-air regions.

Battlefield 5 Defying the Odds Trailer 2

The final reveal comes at the very end of the trailer. It’s unknown whether this represents content coming in Chapter 4, or whether it’s teasing something else coming in the future. Whatever the case, it briefly shows a Japanese soldier shouting orders amidst a raging battle; a clear indication that DICE is planning to head to the Pacific theatre, something which has long been requested by fans.
