Battlefield V’s Most Important Aspect Will Be “Playing the F—-ing Objective” According to DICE
Battlefield V is taking players back to World War II for a harrowing look at the time period, and it’s going to offer several different game modes for players new and old. The game has seen all sorts of changes since its inception, but it’s going to retain that classic Battlefield feel, if you’re concerned about that. There are, however, changes coming that fans should be happy to hear about, many of which revolve around design that adds depth to the game. In particular, it revolves around “PTFO,” or “Playing The F—-ing Field,” according to DICE Design Director Daniel Berlin.
In a new interview with gamesTM, Berlin stated that he’d like players to go into the game with that mindset, especially since it’s going to be a pretty crucial part of Battlefield V.
“Executing squad play commands – such as reviving, executing orders, giving ammo and spawning on each other – or PTFO: if you play the objective you’ll also get squad reinforcement points,” said Berlin. This basically means that you should be concerned not with your K/D ratio or getting the most points and kills, but you should be playing the game’s objective at that point, which is something people just don’t do enough of, quite annoyingly.
“What this does is give you access to items like the V1 rocket. It doesn’t matter how bad the situation is around you, if you drop that V1, everybody fucking goes away. We also have super-powerful powerhouse vehicles that are built for your entire squad to fit inside and play together. You can call these types of vehicles in, and they are only for your squad to spawn into. This has the same mentality: if this thing comes at you and you aren’t geared to deal with it, you aren’t playing a class leaning towards taking out vehicles, then you should just leave, because it will kill everyone,” Berlin explained further.
Hopefully these changes will encourage folks to pay more attention to the game modes’ objectives, which are important to keep an eye on, and far more integral than your own stats when playing with a team.
Battlefield V hits the field on October 19 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
