Latest Borderlands 3 Patch Makes Anointments More Effective

In the first Borderlands 3 patch of 2020, Gearbox did quite a bit more than simple bug-fixes. In fact, not only did the patch begin two simultaneous events (the delayed Takedown event and the Farming Frenzy mini-event), but it also delivered changes to the way that the Borderlands 3 Anointments work. More specifically, it features improvements to the Anointments available to Zane, FL4K, and Moze.

Anointment Changes in the Latest Borderlands 3 Patch

“In lookint at the bonuses from Anointments, we felt that some were not providing enough of a bonus,” explains Gearbox. The studio apparently thinks that Amara’s Anointments are fine, as she was the only Vault Hunter who was unchanged in the patch. Of the other three, it was Moze the Gunner who received the most alterations. Firstly, while Auto Bear is active, it will now deal 75% bonus incendiary damage (up from 20%). Furthermore, after Moze exits Iron Bear, not only will the next 2 magazines have 125% bonus incendiary damage (up from 40%), but she will gain 160% increased Splash damage for 18 seconds (up from 120%). In fact, whenever Moze enters or exists Iron Bear, she will also get an increase to nova damage.

Zane the Operative, meanwhile, only received two alterations. While his Barrier is active, his Critical Hit damage will go up by 70% (up from 30%), and his Accuracy will go up by 60%. Additionally, while his SNTL is active, he will now get 100% bonus Cryo damage instead of 50%. Finally, FL4K will now gain increased nova damage when he exits Fade Away, and after he uses Rakk Attack!, he will now gain 50% critical hit damage (up from 25%).

Beyond these Anointment changes, the first Borderlands 3 patch of 2020 includes a variety of minor bug fixes. Some of these specifically apply to the Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot DLC; after all, this is the first patch to release since that DLC’s launch in December. Plus, the patch also enabled two events which are currently live in-game; the Borderlands 3 Takedown event, which was originally meant to start earlier this month, and the Farming Frenzy mini-event. Both events will be live until the end of January.
