Back in mid-February, Gearbox announced that they would be discontinuing their Borderlands Vault Insider Program later in the year. Initially launched as a means for fans to earn in-game rewards ahead of the release of Borderlands 3, the program will be officially shutting down on the 18th of May. As such, users now only have one week left to redeem any unspent points.
End of the Borderlands Vault Insider Program
The Borderlands Vault Insider Program, or VIP Program for short, was an initiative launched by Gearbox to help promote Borderlands 3. Users were able to earn points by watching trailers and engaging with other social media content, then redeem those points for rewards once the game launched. Now, Gearbox has said that they want to; “ensure you’re rewarded simply for playing the game itself,” and that; “we want those kinds of rewards to be available to as many players and fans as possible”. As such, the program is now coming to an end.
If you’re still a user of the Vault Insider Program – and the program does have millions of users – the program will officially end on the 18th of May at 11:59 PM PDT. At this point, all un-redeemed VIP points will be forfeit. However, any rewards which you’ve gotten from redeeming points will still be available via your associated SHiFT account. As such, you’ll need to redeem any points you have left before the program closes or else lose them entirely.
Gearbox has also extended their thanks to all those who used the VIP Program; “Bringing you the Vault Insider Program has been a blast,” they write; “[…] To everyone in the Vault Insider Program, thank you for your support in helping use make so much Borderlands mayhem”. Fortunately for Borderlands 3 players, there is currently no shortage of bonuses, events, and new loot. Both the Revenge of the Cartels and Loot the Universe events are currently live in-game, for instance. Plus, a new Takedown mission is on the horizon, due to arrive sometime next month.
