Bungie Details Destiny 2: Forsaken’s Newly Revamped Infusion System

In Destiny 2’s upcoming Forsaken expansion, Bungie will be making some interesting changes to the infusion system that allows players to enhance the power of desired gear by breaking down other gear pieces they no longer want. According to what Forsaken developers Scott Taylor and Steve Cotton recently said in a Game Informer podcast interview, infusion will become a more fluid process, but also one that could potentially be more expensive.

The infusion process will be changing in Destiny 2's Forsaken expansion.

Here’s a rundown of how Destiny 2’s infusion system will be altered when the Forsaken expansion launches:

  • Year One gear can be infused to make it as powerful as Year Two gear.
  • Players won’t need any sort of additional resource or consumable to infuse gear, even when infusing their favorite Year One pieces. Infusion only costs Glimmer now, and it will continue to only cost Glimmer in Forsaken.
  • Bungie will be removing the strict weapon type infusion restriction that Destiny 2 players currently have to live with (meaning, for example, an auto rifle can only be infused with other auto rifles).
  • In Forsaken, any weapon in the same slot (kinetic, energy, or power) can be infused into another weapon in that slot, ensuring that players no longer have to choose between using their favorite weapons or using an undesired weapon of a different type that has a higher Power Level.
  • The cost of infusion will fluctuate based on what’s being infused into what. Infusing a weapon with another weapon of the same type will be relatively cheap (especially if they’re exact duplicates of each other), but if you want to infuse using weapons of different types, you’ll have to pay a little extra.
  • It’s not clear yet if players will still be able to infuse like-type weapons that are in two different slots (so infusing a kinetic auto rifle with an energy auto rifle for example).
  • Even though certain power weapon types like sniper rifles and shotguns are being converted into kinetic and energy weapons in Forsaken, some specific weapons, such as the Legend of Acrius shotgun or the recently discovered Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle will remain as power weapons.
