Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Is Built Around A Social Experience

Many players are waiting for a new Call of Duty title this year. In contrast to what we believed the game will be like though, Treyarch is not adding a single player campaign and is instead targeting a social experience for its players. Treyarch explains more about their view on the matter.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 ships with two major multiplayer modes this year, its classic PvP mode and a battle royale called Blackout. Treyarch wants their title to be connecting players with their friends other than have them getting imerged into long campaigns.  co-studio head Dan Bunting said during an E3 2018 interview:

“We’ve said that we wanted to build a game that’s really built around the social gameplay experiences that you can play with your friends”

“That’s really the big emphasis, that’s where we’ve honed our skills the best as a studio over the years. That’s what I think our core fanbase knows us for the most, and [they] spend the most time in our game there.”

However, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies mode will be players’ way of having a PvE experience this year, along with the specialist solo missions that will give you more back story and understanding of who the specialists are, what kind of personalities they have, who they work for, why they’re here, how they interact with one another.

Bunting also revealed that Blackout may be a multiplayer mode but will also appeal to players that are into a single player experience. Battle Royale titles have grown extremely popular over the last year, gaining more and more players that may haven’t been keen on multiplayer games.

This decision didn’t come lightly to Treyarch. However, the Black Ops series were always about their myltiplayer, so it makes sense that the studio wants to focus on this aspect of the game this year. Do you agree?
