With Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Treyarch is trying something new and very different by excluding a single-player story mode, but there are still important links to the modes that you can look back on if you end up missing the way things were. And while there won’t be a narrative to pay attention to, you’ll still have some links to the older games that you can look back fondly on.
For instance, the game’s new Specialist types represent playable characters that lock you into a role where you play with a specific type of fighter for the entirety of a round. There are 10 total specialists you can choose from, with nine of them who were shown off during the Black Ops 4 multiplayer trailer. Anyone who got to go to the community reveal event in LA when it happened, however, got a chance to see all 10 specialists ahead of the rest of the pack.
Here’s a rundown of each specialist and what they bring to the table.
- Battery – Lobs grenades to bounce or stick to surfaces
- Ruin – “Rushing” class that can move across the map armed with a grapple gun
- Firebreak – Uses a radiation field as well as a flamethrower
- Ajax – Great for breaching, with a defensive shield and a built-in pistol to up defense quotient
- Recon – Deploys a vision pulse that reveals enemies to your teammates through obstacles
- Crash – Support class that heals other players and provides ammo packs that give bonuses when used to kill enemies
- Torque – Trapper class that sets down razor wire to slow and damage enemies
- Seraph – Tactician class that lets your team redeploy at different locations
- Nomad – Relies on survivalist training, with a focus on the art of the ambush in order to outsmart the foes he faces
- Prophet – Disruptor class that works with the cutting edge of technology to use gadgets to disrupt enemy tactics
These characters are varied enough that you should be able to find a particular one that suits you in lieu of a single-player story mode, as that’s the beauty of the future of Black Ops 4. What character are you looking forward to playing as most?
