Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Sold Nearly 5 Million Digital Units in a Month

Although the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare didn’t break the record for most successful Call of Duty launch ever, it did break a few more specific records. One of these was the record for the franchise’s biggest PC launch, and now, thanks to SuperData’s October report, we have an idea of how many digital copies it actually sold. All told, it seems that Modern Warfare digital sales totalled around 4.75 million copies in October alone!

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Digital Sales’ Figures

The new report from SuperData shows that Modern Warfare digital sales exceeded those of any other game in October. It was also the top-grossing game on consoles for October, outperforming FIFA 20, Destiny 2, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and others. On PC, it only managed to reach #6 for “Top Grossing Title,” behind long-time staples like League of Legends, which came in at #1. The PC list was also dominated by several titles which are extremely popular in China, including Fantasy Westward Journey Online II and Crossfire. World of Warcraft, buoyed by the recent release of World of Warcraft Classic, managed to take the #5 spot.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Digital Sales Figures Launch Month

SuperData noted that Modern Warfare’s digital sales figures were actually down 11% over Black Ops 4’s digital launch sales. However, Black Ops 4 did have more days in the month in which to accrue sales; a factor which may well account for the difference. SuperData also noted that the average sale price of digital copies dropped as well this year. However, this was due to the lack of a season pass option.

Interestingly, Modern Warfare wasn’t the only Call of Duty title to have a successful October. Since its launch, Call of Duty: Mobile has shot up the mobile game rankings. Although it didn’t make the top 10 in October, SuperData placed it at 12th. The title reportedly had 116 million monthly active users and monthly revenue of over $57 million. If the game continues to grow, then it may even break into the top 10 in the next report. Certainly, the recent addition of controller support and a Zombies mode may attract more players to the new mobile game.
