Call of Duty: Warzone Passes 30 Million Players in Two Weeks

Call of Duty: Warzone, which was released by Activision less than two weeks ago, has been rapidly gaining new players at an explosive rate. Thanks in part to its last-minute announcement, the game has attracted widespread attention. Now, Activision has announced that the game has already gained over 30 million players!

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Latest Player Count

According to Activision’s post, which was made earlier today, over 30 million people have played Call of Duty: Warzone since its launch almost two weeks ago. Just a few days ago, the game announced that it had passed 15 million players. As such, its explosive growth has clearly continued unabated, at least for the time being. Most notably, the 30 million figure is higher than Apex Legends’ player count in its first two weeks; that battle royale game, which also launched with zero pre-release marketing, managed to gain some 25 million players in its first two weeks.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether all these new players will stick around. In fact, it’s very likely that Warzone will see a significant decline in players over the next few weeks. Just as happened with Apex Legends, millions of gamers are currently giving the free game a try, but many will likely move on to other things or decide that it’s not their cup of tea after a few matches. Apex saw a sharp drop in its active player figures shortly after launch as the initial interest among gamers waned.

However, Warzone’s Call of Duty branding and aggressive content release schedule is likely to slow that decline somewhat. Activision has already launched a new Solos mode for Warzone; suggesting that the battle royale game will be getting very frequent new modes and content updates to try and keep players engaged. Given how successful that model has been in Modern Warfare, it isn’t surprising to see Activision deploying it here. What remains unclear is just how much it will forestall a decline in player interest; a decline which is almost inevitably going to occur over the coming weeks.
