Capcom Reveals Contents of Resident Evil 2’s Deluxe Edition

When the Resident Evil 2 remake launches early next year, there will be three separate editions available to buyers. There will be the standard edition of course and a pricey $200 Collector’s Edition for all the mega-fans out there. Heck, if you live in Japan you can even splurge on a fourth region-exclusive option: this $900 Special Edition.

If, however, your budget is more modest, the $70 Deluxe Edition should be more your speed. Capcom recently disclosed the digital bonuses included in the Deluxe Edition. As it turns out, that extra $10 will buy you a whole bunch of digital fan service.

Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition Contents

First off, the Resident Evil 2 remake’s Deluxe Edition includes a reversible case cover if you purchase the physical version. This means fans can display their favorite playable protagonist, either Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield. As for digital goodies, the Deluxe Edition comes with a total of five bonus costumes and a bonus weapon skin. Finally, Deluxe Edition buyers can swap the game’s soundtrack over to the retro tunes of the original game.

The Deluxe Edition’s bonus costumes and weapon skin are as follows:

  • “Elza Walker” Claire Costume
  • “Noir” Claire Costume
  • “Military” Claire Costume
  • “Arklay Sheriff” Leon Costume
  • “Noir” Leon Costume
  • Albert Model Samurai Edge Weapon Skin

If the name Elza Walker doesn’t sound familiar that’s because it’s a bit of a deep dig on Capcom’s part. At one point, a different version of Resident Evil 2 starring a woman named Elza Walker was in development. Like Claire, Elza would have been a Raccoon University student and motorcyclist, hence the getup. Thanks to the Deluxe Edition costume, it looks like Elza will finally get her due, at least in spirit.

Those who pre-order any version of the Resident Evil 2 remake also get two additional weapon skins. The Chris Model and Jill Model Samurai Edge skins join the Albert Model that’s included in the Deluxe Edition. This means that Deluxe Edition buyers can pay tribute to their favorite characters from Resident Evil 2’s predecessor.

The Resident Evil 2 remake arrives on January 25, 2019.
