Chinese PUBG Cheaters Arrested For Distributing Hacking Software
It looks like several cheaters involved with developing and distributing special PUBG cheating software have been arrested in China — fifteen of them, to be exact. This is the culmination of an ongoing investigation, which recently came to a head with an update via the official PUBG Steam page.
PUBG announced that it had been previously building up its stores of information about those who develop PUBG hacks and sell it to others, even working with the authorities to go out and catch those involved. They finally met their mark earlier this week, and now it looks like these 15 suspects are in for a world of hurt.
The official police statement reads as follows, per PUBG Corp.: “It was confirmed that malicious code, including Trojan horse software, was included in some of these programs and was used to steal user information,” reads the police statement translated by PUBG Corp.” As far as the actual arrests go, the 15 cheers were arrested for “developing hack programs, hosting marketplaces for hack programs, and brokering transactions.” They’re being fined about $5.1 million, or 30 million RNB, the Chinese Renminbi currency. That sounds like a lot to come back from, certainly not pocket change. It’s serious business when you mess about with PUBG Corp.’s finances, now.
Of course, these 15 suspects aren’t even the only people connected to the crimes. The police are still hard at work investigating the crime ring further, especially some of the hacking programs utilized in the cheating programs, including a “Heybox trojan horse,” which amounts to a virus that illegally taps into a user’s PC to extract info and perform other malicious tasks. These are all things that should certainly be punished, as privacy and personal information is even harder to keep safe these days without two-bit hackers trying to get into everything you deem sacred on your computer.
