Cyberpunk 2077 Driving Will be More Realistic Than Games Like GTA

Thus far, CD Projekt Red have only given fans a few short glimpses of Cyberpunk 2077 driving, although it will likely be a major part of the game. Now, thanks to a recent developer Q&A event held in Poland, we have some idea of the level of realism which the studio is aiming for. According to the devs, the realism should be greater than a game like GTA, though the car physics won’t be 100% realistic.

CD Projekt Red’s Design for Cyberpunk 2077 Driving

CD Projekt Red recently held a developer Q&A in Poland, and thanks to a summary report on Reddit, we have the studio’s responses on a variety of topics. One that came up several times, it seems, was the topic of cars and driving mechanics. When asked about the realism of their driving physics, CD Projekt Red are apparently; “aiming to make the car physics, while not on the simulator level, definitely more realistic than in something like GTA.”

Cyberpunk 2077 Driving More Realistic Than GTA 2

Driving is likely to be the primary way that players get from place to place, excluding fast travel, and as such, it needs to be a relatively robust system. Hopefully, CD Projekt Red will be able to show off more of the driving as we get closer to launch. Certainly, we also know that there will be car racing, although the Q&A did reveal some interesting facets to that too; “car racing minigame is not going to be just a traditional car racing, they will also add some kind of extra Cyberpunk touch to it, which should allow us to really test the speed limits of our cars.”

One aspect of the Cyberpunk 2077 cars that is less clear, however, is car customisation. According to the Q&A, CD Projekt Red is well aware that many fans have requested such a feature, but; “they are asking for a little more patience before they will say anything about it”. It sounds as though this might be a feature which they’d like to include, but may not have time to implement before launch. If that proves to be the case, it’s certainly possible that it could be added post-launch.
