Cyberpunk 2077 Gangs Attack Players Who Commit Crimes in Their Turf

Later this year, CD Projekt Red will publicly reveal the Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay demo which was shown off at E3 2019. However, reports from the press have already given fans some idea of what to expect. Recently, a variety of comments published by the press in Poland were translated into English and shared on NeoGaf. Another issue which got some attention is the way that the Cyberpunk 2077 gangs will operate.

Cyberpunk 2077 Gangs Don’t Take Trespasses and Competition Lightly

The Cyberpunk 2077 gangs will be a major force in the setting of Night City. While the corporations may dominate the city from above, it will be the gangs that rule its underbelly. V will no doubt form relationships, both positive and negative, with various gangs throughout the game. Additionally, we now know that they will actually serve as a form of law enforcement, in a way. Fans recently learned from CD Projekt Red that the police in Night City will be heavily corrupt and bribed to serve the corporations. While the police may have one agenda, the gangs may also serve something of a policing role.

Cyberpunk 2077 Gangs Attack Competition in Their Turf 2

According to comments made following the screening of the demo to members of the Polish press, gang members will attack players if they see them committing certain crimes in their territory; “If you take a driver out of his car to rob him and there is a gang or the police around, a violent response will be felt.”

While the police are acting to apprehend somebody breaking the law, it seems likely that gang members may be attacking to maintain control in their territory. After all, they may not want somebody causing trouble in their turf, or being seen to be muscling in. It’s currently unknown if this extends to different kinds of crimes. Or, whether their response might change if you have a good relationship with that gang. (Indeed, perhaps even the police will turn a blind eye if you have the right connections…)
