Dark Horse Comics Shows Off First Look at Upcoming God of War Series

Since the release of God of War, Santa Monica Studios has partnered with a wide variety of other companies to release tie-in products. They licensed fine-art prints of the game’s concept art, and a vinyl edition of the game’s soundtrack. There is even a novelization of the game coming out soon, written by Cory Barlog’s novelist father. Now, Dark Horse Comics have given fans their first look at an upcoming God of War comic series.

The Upcoming Dark Horse God of War Comic Series

Santa Monica Studios has announced a partnership with Sony and Dark Horse Comics to create a new God of War comic series. This series will consist of four issues; set in the new Norse realms which the latest God of War took place in. The series’ lead writer is Chris Roberson, who wrote iZombie and Witchfinder. Tony Parker (Mayday) has been brought onboard as the comic artist, while Dan Jackson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is the colorist. Finally, John Roshell of Comicraft has been announced as the official letterer. An announcement piece of art work, pictured below, was created by artist E.M. Gist (The Strain, and Will Save the Galaxy for Food).

Kratos Faces Down a Clan of Berserkers in the Prequel Comic Series

“The God of War comic series finds Kratos living in the remote Norse wilds after his war on the gods of Olympus,” Dark Horse told Comicbook.com; “Seeking to put the rage that defined most of his life behind him, Kratos inadvertently sparks a feud with a mysterious cult of berserkers after attempting to save a stranger being mauled by a monstrous bear. But, for the former Ghost of Sparta, no good deed goes unpunished.”

The series, then, is evidently a prequel to the latest game. As such, Atreus is unlikely to appear. However, there is a possibility that it could give fans their first look at the character of Faye; Atreus’ mother whose funeral featured at the start of God of War. The first edition of the upcoming comic series will be launched on the 14th of November.
