Looking back on the 2010-2019 decade, which company ruled the console universe? It turns out that going by sales, Sony was the winner of the console war, specifically with the PlayStation 4.
The PS4 Won The Decade’s Console War in Terms of Sales
Take a look at this tweet from NPD analyst Mat Piscatella:
The text reads, “S NPD HW – Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of both December and 2019, while Sony’s PlayStation 4 finished as the best-selling hardware of the decade.”
The image in the tweet reveals that while Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware of the year in 2019, Sony’s PlayStation 4 was the best-selling hardware of the decade from 2010 through 2019.
Similarly, during 2019, the best-selling accessory of the year was the Switch Pro Controller. But over the course of the entire decade, the best-selling accessory was the wireless black DualShock 4. Interestingly, Microsoft’s consoles and controllers are absent entirely from this list of best-sellers.
So, even with Nintendo’s success during 2019, Sony is in a great position to continue to win the console war in terms of sales heading into the decade ahead. The company just needs to continue to build on its legacy of excellence for both consoles and controllers.
Speaking of the coming decade and a new era for Sony, the company recently announced “several key features” of the PlayStation 5. Aside from that, a lot of the recent news regarding PS5 has focused on the logo. We also have been hearing a lot about the PS5 controller.
