Destiny 2’s July Update Will Make Some Big Changes to Crucible PvP

Destiny 2 is poised to receive a sizable update on July 17, an update which, among other things, will mark the beginning of the game’s final season three Faction Rally. However, if the Crucible PvP component is more your jam, you’ll definitely want to hop in and play once the July 17 update is live.

In its latest This Week at Bungie blog post, Bungie outlined the changes it will be making to the Crucible in the July 17 update. As was previously mentioned, the Quickplay playlist will be permanently upped to 6v6 for all game modes, and the total score needed to win in both Control and Clash will be upped to reflect the higher player counts for each match. Speaking of Control, the mode will be tweaked slightly so that all capture zones will be neutral at the start of a match (currently, each team begins the match with their respective side’s zone already captured).

Get ready for some big Crucible changes come July 17.

The Supremacy game mode will be taken out of the Quickplay rotation, tweaked so that it’s 6v6 with a 150 score limit, and then re-introduced as a weekly featured playlist (in fact, it will be the weekly playlist for the week of July 17). Those who prefer more free-for-all combat will also be happy to hear that Rumble will be getting its own dedicated full-time playlist. Over on the Competitive side, the Countdown mode’s bomb fuse timer will be lowered from 40 seconds to 35 seconds, helping to shave a little time off of individual rounds and matches.

Perhaps the most welcome changes coming in the July 17 update are the tweaks Bungie is making to both Valor Rank and Glory Rank. In response to overwhelming fan feedback, players will now be able to earn Valor Rank points in the Quickplay, Crucible Labs, Iron Banner, Trials of the Nine, and Competitive playlists, making it a lot easier to reach new Valor Ranks overall. Players will also no longer lose their Valor Rank win streak if they are defeated in a game they joined in progress. As for Glory Rank, players with similar Glory Rank levels will be matched together to ensure more evenly balanced matches, and Glory Rank loss streaks will be tuned so that they’re less punishing.

For more on Destiny 2, Faction Rally participants will be happy to hear that the event’s unique exotic weapon catalysts will still be available in some fashion once season three ends, though Bungie hasn’t detailed exactly how as of this writing.
