Destiny 2’s Newest Iron Banner Event Includes A Fan-Favorite Map

Today, Bungie is kicking off the first Destiny 2 Iron Banner event for the game’s third content season, and to help usher the new season of Iron Banner in, the studio is bringing back a beloved Crucible map from the original Destiny.

A few days ago, Bungie tweeted out a PSA saying that Iron Banner would return on May 22. Along with the PSA, the tweet also included an image showing three Guardians preparing for combat on what appeared to be one of the most popular Crucible maps in Destiny: Bannerfall.

Bannerfall, which was added to Destiny in the game’s Taken King expansion, was set in the empty ruins of an abandoned tower on Earth, much like the tower that functioned as the game’s central social space where players could congregate. The map’s mixture of metal surfaces, smooth architecture, and interspersed gardens made it very pleasing to the eyes, even if it was sometimes hard to appreciate the map’s luster while dodging rocket fire from enemy players. Judging from the image Bungie tweeted, it looks like Destiny 2’s version of Bannerfall bears the scars of the Red Legion assault.

Along with the new Bannerfall map, this week’s Iron Banner will features 6v6 competitive gameplay along with the Control gametype, closely replicating the Iron Banner experience that original Destiny players loved so much. There will also naturally be new armor ornaments and weapons to earn, and you can actually see the new armor designs in the above Twitter image (a closer look at both the armor and new weapons can also be found over on Bungie’s website). Along with the new Valor rank rewards that were added in the Warmind DLC, the new armor and weapons should give even casual players plenty of incentive for giving this week’s Iron Banner a shot.
