Destiny 2’s Showdown Crucible Labs Mode Has Been Tweaked

A few months ago, as part of its then newly minted Crucible Labs experimental PvP playlist, Bungie allowed all Destiny 2 players to try out a brand new Crucible PvP mode called Showdown in which two teams of four compete in a round-based twist on the standard team deathmatch formula. Showdown was eventually taken offline so that Bungie could implement the feedback the mode received, and now the latest This Week at Bungie post has announced that the mode is back up for a second pass of feedback.

The Showdown mode has returned.

In Showdown, teams work to score as many kills as they can across a series of five timed rounds. If each team manages to win two rounds apiece, a fifth “showdown round” commences in which each player only has one life, kicking off a tense elimination-style tiebreaker. In the above TWAB post, Crucible senior designer Andrew Weldon noted that the initial reception to Showdown was fairly mixed, so Bungie made the following changes to the mode (text courtesy of Bungie):

  • The round time limit has been reduced to 90 seconds
  • Rounds now have a score limit of 10
  • Revives are now enabled
  • Reviving a teammate before they respawn will take the point back from your opponents

The above changes will hopefully trim down the amount of time each Showdown match takes to complete while also adding in some new layers of strategy with the revive mechanics. The second iteration of Showdown is available to play now via the Crucible Labs playlist, and as usual participating in Showdown will earn players the same Crucible and Valor Rank rewards that they’d earn playing in other Crucible playlists. Players who give the newly revamped Showdown mode a whirl are also once again encouraged to submit feedback via the official Destiny 2 feedback forums.

The Crucible Labs Showdown mode isn’t the only thing that’s being retooled as Bungie also recently announced it will be implementing additional changes to Destiny 2’s Faction Rally event.
