Krovnik Farmland – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s New Ground War Map

With today’s release of a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update, Infinity Ward took the opportunity to hold what they described as a Community Content event. Alongside bug-fixes and other tweaks, the studio made a new game mode and two new Modern Warfare maps freely available. In contrast to the new Shoot House map, the new Modern Warfare Krovnik Farmland map is huge. Indeed, it’s role is that of a stage for the Ground War game mode; what is, at present, Modern Warfare’s largest game mode.

The New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Maps – Krovnik Farmland

“Once idyllic, the rural farm land of Verdansk has been pock-marked with evidence of military conflict,” explains Activision; “and the scars are visible across this Ground War map designed for battles on a massive scale. Compared to the previous maps of this size and scale, Krovnik Farmland provides a distinctly different atmosphere. Fight epic and frenetic Domination matches across a vast and undulating rural landscape, featuring farmhouses, windmills, silos, and other agricultural scenery.”

While Shoot House, the other new map, emphasises tight corners and restricted indoor sight lines, the Modern Warfare Krovnik Farmland map is quite the opposite. The farm buildings do break up sight-lines somewhat, of course. However, players should be able to find no shortage of vantage points for long-range sniping here. Also unlike Shoot House, vehicles play a major part in this map; there is a lot of room for vehicles to manoeuvre, after all.

Krovnik Farmland offers a more open alternative to Karst River Quarry, the primary Ground War map until now. Indeed, much of the Karst River Quarry is packed full of rows of buildings, limiting the manoeuvrability of vehicles and long-range sight-lines. Krovnik Farmland is less built-up. As a result, it is likely to encourage different sorts of tactics from players. Vehicles may come to play a more important role, for example, as may aerial Killstreaks which have plenty of room to strafe and gun down enemies in the open.
