EA Sports College Football Video Game Announced After NCAA Franchise’s Hiatus

An EA Sports college football video game has been revealed as on the way, causing quite a commotion amongst fans. The last time a title involving college football arrived was over seven years ago, and fans have been hoping for it to remerge. With EA’s Madden football game titles recently introducing a number of college teams into the game, it seemed only a matter of time.

EA Sports college football game announced

On Tuesday, EA Sports blew up Twitter and the internet with their simple reveal. “For those who never stopped believing…#EASPORTSCollegeFootball,” EA tweeted. The tweet features a photo of a football field full of confetti, most likely following a major championship win.

The words “College Football is coming back,” are written over the image, along with EA Sports College Football, which could be the upcoming game’s title. Beyond that, not much else was revealed as far as when it will come out, or what all it will include.

Based on the number of Likes and comments on EA’s tweet above, fans were pleased by the news. However, the game’s title immediately raised speculation, as previous versions of EA’s college football game fell under the NCAA franchise. Some individuals are already speculating that the NCAA may not be involved in the new EA Sports college football game.

EA’s Madden 21 title currently features a selection of college football teams with their official jerseys and logos. They are included in the Face of the Franchise mode, with gamers choosing which college team to play for and guiding their created star through games and storylines.

Based on a report from Washington Post, EA doesn’t hold any NCAA licensing around this upcoming game. So there won’t be player names, images, or likenesses. Instead, there will be randomly generated players, names, numbers, and attributes, per the Post’s report.

EA’s last college title was NCAA Football 14

The last time EA Sports college football game came out was in 2013 with NCAA Football 14. That particular game featured Michigan Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson on the cover. Previous NCAA Football cover athletes included stars such as Barry Sanders, Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez, DeSean Jackson, Reggie Bush, and Desmond Howard.

Legal disputes involving Electronic Arts, college athletes, and the NCAA ended up causing EA to shelve the video game for the past seven years. However, fans continued to show love for NCAA Football 14 as they have kept playing the title over the years.

With Madden NFL 18, Oregon and Texas licensed their team names to be used for the story mode. Madden 20 brought 10 college teams into Face of the Franchise mode. Amongst them were not only Oregon and Texas, but also Miami, FSU, LSU, USC, Oklahoma, Clemson, and Texas Tech.

Madden 21 also features playable college teams. The game is currently available for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PCs. Just recently, EA made the game available on Google Stadia.

It’s also worth noting that 2K’s NBA 2K21 game featured college teams as part of their story mode. With an EA Sports college football game announced, could a 2K college basketball game be on the way too? Many fans certainly hope so.
