Elder Scrolls 6 Could be Titled “Redfall” According to a New Bethesda Trademark

On the 10th of September, Bethesda quietly filed a new trademark, though it wasn’t not long before news of the filing began to spread. The story was first covered by Newsweek, two days ago. The new trademark makes no mention of The Elder Scrolls, but the name itself seems to tie in to the predictions of The Elder Scrolls 6‘s setting. The newly trademarked name is “Redfall.”

Could The Elder Scrolls 6 be Titled “Redfall”?

The Redfall trademark was filed just over a week ago by ZeniMax Media Inc., Bethesda’s parent company. The trademark doesn’t specify exactly what it will be used for. However, it does state that the trademark is for; “a computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles”. This sort of trademark filing is fairly common practice when a studio names a new game; ensuring that no other company can steal or repurpose it. Although there have been instances in the past when game names, including a Fallout title at one stage, were trademarked by hoaxers, there is little chance of that in this case; we know that it was ZeniMax who filed this trademark. It is worth noting, though, that trademarked names don’t always end up being used; the company may decide to change a name at a later date.

Redfall Could be the Name of The Elder Scrolls 6

In this instance, we have no evidence that Redfall is the name of the Elder Scrolls 6. However, the name seems to allude to something specific. Namely, it appears to reference the Redguard race. The “fall” part of the word could imply either or both an actual defeat, or refer to the “fell” in the name of their homeland. At present, the strongest theories for the setting of The Elder Scrolls 6 are that it will be set in Hammerfell; the home of the Redguards.

More importantly, in the current timeline, Hammerfell has split from the empire and become an independent state. In fact, it is waging a bloody war against the Aldmeri Dominion. It has long been suspected that the Dominion would be the primary antagonists of the next Elder Scrolls title; ever since their appearance in Skyrim. Redfall would certainly make sense as a name for a game set amidst that conflict.
