Enderal: Forgotten Stories Skyrim Mod Now Free on Steam

Anybody familiar with the modding community for The Elder Scrolls games, and especially Skyrim, is likely to have at least heard of Enderal. One of the most well-known and ambitious mods for Skyrim, Enderal is a total conversion mod which has been available for a couple of years now. Now, Enderal: Forgotten Stories is available for free on Steam after a long wait; until now, the mod has only been available externally.

The Enderal: Forgotten Stories Skyrim Mod

Roughly six months ago, SureAI, the mod team behind Enderal, launched a Steam page for the mod, although it was not available on the platform at that stage. The total conversion mod boasts between 30 and 100 hours of expected playtime, and features an entirely new world and story. The Steam page described Enderal as an independent game which merely required that users own The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. (It isn’t required that players own any of that game’s DLC, etc.)

The new delivery system on Steam will allow the two games to coexist without affecting one another; essentially, Enderal would no longer interfere with Skyrim’s directory, theoretically making it much easier for gamers to install and play. Enderal uses Skyrim as a base to build an almost entirely new game, with new classes, gameplay mechanics, and more. The game also has a variety of performance enhancing tweaks and other general improvements made by SureAI.

At the time, the plan was to release Enderal on Steam before the end of 2018. That didn’t end up happening, but there was only a small delay. The mod is now available on Steam, for free. As a way of re-branding it for its standalone release, SureAI have titled it ‘Enderal: Forgotten Stories,’ and released a brand-new gameplay trailer for the mod. At present, the mod only works if you own the original version of Skyrim, not the more recent Special Edition.
