Epic Games Removes Fortnite Infinity Blade from Battle Royale

Epic Games has revealed that it has removed theĀ Fortnite Infinity Blade from Battle Royale. This is rather surprising to see happen considering the blade was just added to the Battle Royale mode this week. The update 7.01 patch notes brought with it the release of the mythic item and now another update has removed it entirely. This is leading to player confusion.

The reason for removing the Fortnite Infinity Blade is simple. Epic Games stated that it “messed up” and the blade is simply too overpowered right now. This is worsened by the fact that the blade has no real counters of note, especially in the late game stages of matches. This line of reasoning eventually led the developer to remove the weapon just a few short days after its implementation.

You can find the full statement from Epic Games on the entire Fortnite Infinity Blade issue below:

“We messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game. The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items.”

This call into question whether or not the Fortnite Infinity Blade will ever make a return to Battle Royale. Hopefully, there is a way to revive it in the future with either a better nerf or other weapons that can counter. This is certainly unfortunate news considering the blade was implemented just after some other bad news happened related to this.

Originally, Epic Games removed the Infinity Blade games from Apple iOS store. This prompted the release of the blade into Fortnite Battle Royale. Epic also noted that players could look forward to seeing the series show up in unexpected places. With this unfortunate news, it remains to be seen if there are other places the series could end up.
