Exclusive Content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Revealed at State of Play
Remember how Infinity Ward and Activision claimed that they were done with timed exclusives on different platforms? Well, hopefully you didn’t get too excited about that if you’re on a platform other than PlayStation 4. During State of Play, we found out that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare exclusive content will be yet another timed platform release.
What We Learned About Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Exclusive Content
During the State of Play presentation by PlayStation, we got to watch the campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The trailer focused on the single-player campaign for the game, but it also provided us with some insights into the exclusive content for the game.
It turns out that there is going to be a brand new Special Ops Mode called “Survival.” The great news for PS4 gamers is that this content will be available to them first. But, the really bad news for gamers on Xbox One and PC is that they will have to wait an entire year before they get to play the new mode. The release date for the mode for everyone who isn’t on PS4 is October 1st, 2020.
Did you do a double take there? We sure did. It was hard to believe at first. That is a ridiculously long waiting period to access a game mode.
Oh, and check out the misleading way in which this information was presented:
It says “Play First on PS4” in big letters under “Special Ops Survival Mode.” But then, if you look down at the bottom of the image, you’ll see the miniscule letters that read, “Timed Exclusive Content Until October 1, 2020.”
Seriously, just when we thought we’d seen the end of this type of thing, here it is again, and worse than ever. Timed exclusives are already a pain, but usually they don’t last a fraction this long. What are they thinking doing this? And after they already claimed that they weren’t going to do this type of thing again? No wonder the announcement is in such tiny letters. Not only is it something that they knew was going to annoy players, but they surely must be aware how hypocritical it looks to reverse position so quickly.
