Fallout 76 Modders Persisting Despite Likelihood of Being Banned

Of the many major franchises that exist in the video game market; Fallout and Elder Scrolls have long been favourites of modders. Indeed, few other franchises can boast modding communities as large or as active. However, many modders are currently unhappy with Bethesda over the issue of mod support in Fallout 76. While the studio has said that it wants to support Fallout 76 mods, it needs to implement private servers in order to do so, and these may take at least a year to come to the game.

Modders Making Fallout 76 Mods Despite Lack of Private Servers

Despite Bethesda stating that mod support would come alongside private servers; some modders have nevertheless begun to make mods for the game. The first of these began to emerge during the game’s BETA event. Now, with many players unhappy with the launch of Fallout 76 due to widespread bugs and less-than-stellar optimisation, modders have started making mods to address what they see as problems, especially in the game’s UI.

Fallout 76 Mods Exist in a State of Uncertainty

One mod in particular, called the “Better Inventory” mod, was created by a modder known as “reg2k”; it offers a UI with new display tabs and settings to help players keep track of things. The mod, which is currently available on NexusMods, has already gotten over 11,000 unique downloads.

The problem is that Bethesda has yet to address these mods directly. Ordinarily, the studio has been supportive of mods in their games. However, Fallout 76 comes with a unique factor; the addition of multiplayer. While a UI alteration mod may not affect much in-game; allowing modders to apply mods into an online multiplayer environment is very likely to be seen as a slippery slope, and one which Bethesda likely can’t allow. After all, modders or hackers can’t be allowed to change other people’s game experiences or gain unfair advantages. Indeed, this is the very point of adding private servers. It remains unclear what Bethesda will do to address the situation.
