As you watch the video, you’ll see footage from beloved titles like The Last of Us Part II, The Last Guardian, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, God of War, Bloodborne, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn and more.
Is it really “goodbye?” Well, that depends on who you are and what your plans are. For a lot of people, yes, it is. There is little reason to keep a PS4 around if one is upgrading to a PS5, unless one has PS4 games that won’t work on the PS5. But most titles will be backwards compatible. So, it seems likely only a minority of gamers will need to hold onto their PS4s after getting a PS5.
Of course, some gamers who only recently bought a PS4 may simply keep playing on their PS4s for a few years. After some time has gone by, they will eventually upgrade. What about those who are still on PS3? It is conceivable a few will upgrade to PS4, but it makes sense for most to upgrade directly to PS5. If they do, they can enjoy both PS4 and PS5 games along with the latest technology.
