FIFA 21 Player Ratings: USWNT Star Megan Rapinoe Leads Highest-Rated Women’s Players

Over the past several years, EA and 2K have made strides when it comes to the inclusion of female athletes in their games. NBA 2K now features the WNBA with rumors that gamers will be able to create female MyPlayers in the near future. Meanwhile, EA Sports’ FIFA 21 will bring a roster of women’s players into the game for the newest installment. The new FIFA 21 player ratings list of highest-rated women’s players recently arrived, with Megan Rapinoe and several other USWNT stars among them.

Megan Rapinoe tops women’s FIFA 21 player ratings list

The United States Women’s National Team is considered a dominant force in terms of international football (soccer). That’s thanks to a talented group of players including Megan Rapinoe.

The 35-year-old Californian has been active as a member of the US squad since 2006, racking up 52 goals in 168 appearances. Rapinoe also has an Olympic Gold Medal from 2012, followed by winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015 and 2019. Thanks to 2019’s epic run, Rapinoe earned the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards. She’d later be named FIFA Player of the Year joining men’s winner Lionel Messi.

EA Sports has awarded Megan Rapinoe the highest rating of all women’s players in the game with a 93, which is the same rating that Lionel Messi has, leading all men’s players.

Checking in at No. 2 and No. 3 are Samanthan Kerr of Australia and Wendie Renard of France, who each have a 92 overall rating. In fact, it’s not until No. 10 that another USWNT player pops up in Tobin Heath, with Alex Morgan landing at No. 11. Both are 90 OVR players in the FIFA 21 player ratings, as are the players at the. 7th, 8th, and 9th spots.

The United States’ Julie Ertz takes the No. 15 spot with an 88 overall rating, giving the USWNT four players in the top 15. That makes plenty of sense based on their World Cup win in 2019 which all four ladies helped contribute to, among others.

Women’s players on national teams in EA game

As FIFA fans know, the video game tends to feature a wide variety of teams and leagues. The women’s side of things has been similar over the years, though. There is the exception of the FIFA VOLTA mode which allowed for use of women’s players in the fun style of football at street parks. Gamers have also been able to create female players in the mode.

Most likely, the women shown for today’s FIFA 21 player ratings will appear as parts of their respective national teams again. However, a number of women’s players currently star on other teams based within the United States or England.

For example, Megan Rapinoe is on the OL Reign, based out of Tacoma, Washington, which is one of the teams in the National Women’s Soccer League. Julie Ertz is also part of the NWSL, playing for the Chicago Red Stars since 2014.

Samantha Kerr plays for the Chelsea women’s team as part of the Premier League in England. The USWNT’s Tobin Heath is part of the Manchester United team, while Alex Morgan is on the club associated with the EPL’s Tottenham Hotspur.

It would be quite a surprise to see all of the NSWL and Women’s Premier League clubs pop up in the game. However, it’s always possible EA could be moving towards that in the future.

Next July, the USWNT and other national teams will be part of the rescheduled 2020 Summer Olympics. So fans should be able to test out some the top women’s national teams ahead of that in FIFA 21.

EA Sports’ FIFA 21 arrives on October 9 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PCs. The Google Stadia and next-gen versions of the game (PS5/Xbox Series X) arrive later in the year, following the console releases.
