What They Carried: Where to Find All Vietnam Veteran Lighters in Far Cry 5
Yesterday, Ubisoft revealed new information about “Hours of Darkness”, Far Cry 5’s first DLC. The most important facet of that information was that upcoming expansion will release on the 5th of June. In addition, Ubisoft also revealed the identity of the DLC’s protagonist; Hours of Darkness will cast players as Wendell “Red” Redler, a veteran of the Vietnam War who also appears as an NPC in Far Cry 5.
Wendell can be found at the Redler Residence in Holland Valley, which can be found south of Sunrise Threshing, east of Kay-Nine Kennels, and west of Hyde Barn. There, the old veteran will give you the side-quest “What They Carried“. According to Redler, he and his comrades agreed to prepare for an event like the cult takeover by stashing weapons in Redler’s shed. So that they wouldn’t be tempted to steal the supplies, they set a combination lock on them, and engraved one digit of the code onto each of their army-issued lighters. Redler was the only one who knew the numbers’ correct sequence, but unfortunately, Redler is now the only living member of the group. He offers to let you take the supplies if you’ll find all of his comrades’ lighters before the cult does.
Finding the Vietnam Veteran Lighters
There are twelve Vietnam Veteran lighters in total, hidden across Hope County. All but one of the lighters are inside prepper stashes.
The Lighters in Holland Valley
The first lighter is at Rae-Rae’s Pumpkin Farm. This site is very easy to find, as it’s where you meet Boomer. The second lighter can be found at the Miller Residence. The house is located east of Hyde Barn, south of Kupka Ranch, and west of the Catamount Mines. The third is located in the Harris Residence. This house is north of Dodd’s Dumps, west of the Reservoir Construction Yard and Frobisher’s Cave, and north-east of the Doverspike Compound. The fourth lighter is in the burned-down ruins of the Fillmore Residence, located in the southeast corner of Holland Valley. The ruins are on the border with the Henbane River.
The Lighters in the Henbane River
The first of the Henbane River lighters is in the McCoy Cabin. This abandoned site, west of Peaches’ Taxidermy, has been turned into a Bliss distillery by the cult. The second is at the Counselor’s Cabin, close to the Sacred Skies Youth Camp; the prepper stash is behind the cabin. The third is at the McClean Residence, south-east of the Ranger Station, east of Gardenview Orchards, and north-west of The Pillars of Eden. The fourth is at the Abercrombie Residence, close to the Henbane River Station.
The Lighters in the Whitetail Mountains
The first of the Whitetail Mountain lighters is the only one not located in a prepper stash; it’s on a shelf in the building by the parking lot of the Whitetail Park Visitor’s Center, west of the Wolf’s Den. The next is in the Treehouse Bunker, north of Cedar Lake. There is a grapple point by a nearby waterfall. This site is the only location given to you when you start the mission. The third is in “The Holdouts” prepper stash at the Elliot Residence, due south of the F.A.N.G Center, while the final one is at an unnamed cabin north of Widow’s Creek, between Clagett Bay and Landford Lake.
Once you return to Redler, he’ll give you the code for his shed. This allows you to collect the gear inside, along with 200 resistance points and $900.
