For Honor Hitokiri update

The main highlight of the upcoming update is the new Hitokiri hero for the Samurai faction. Similar to the Black Prior hero from earlier this year, the Hitokiri will be a named hero. The default Hitokiri will be a female warrior named Sakura, featured in the reveal trailer below. There will also be a male alternative named Yato available as well.

According to this announcement post from Ubisoft, the name Hitokiri translates to “manslayer.” This official description included in the post makes it quite clear how the Hitokiri earned their title:

“As ghostly warriors, the Hitokiri roam the land searching for criminals to execute with their deadly Masakari axe. On the battlefield, their mere presence spreads fear to any opponent foolish enough to confront them.”

Hitokiri Reveal Trailer

The below reveal trailer doesn’t feature any gameplay, but it does convey just how terrifying the Hitokiri can be. It also suggests the Hitokiri will be able to utilize some sort of deception-based tools, similar to their Shinobi brethren.

The Hitokiri update will go live next week on Thursday, May 2. Along with the Hitokiri, the update will also include substantial reworks for the existing Raider and Lawbringer classes. Players will also get to duke it out on a brand new map called Canopy. Those who own For Honor’s Year 3 Pass can immediately play as the Hitokiri on May 2. The Hitokiri will then be made available for in-game Steel a week later on May 9.

The Hitokiri is just the second of four new heroes Ubisoft is bringing to For Honor throughout 2019. By the end of the year, all four of the game’s factions will have gotten a new hero. The Black Prior was for the Knights, which means the Vikings and Wu Lin are still on deck.
