Fortnite Is Officially The Biggest Free-to-Play Console Title Ever

Still questioning how influential and popular Fortnite has become? The latest report from SuperData has published its latest digital gaming report for March, putting Fortnite pretty far out ahead of the others. The firm classifies it as the largest free-to-play console game of all time, in terms of monthly active users and revenue generated. Keep in mind that the game generated $223 million across PC, console, and mobile platforms in a staggering 73% growth since February.

Of course, streamer Ninja and rapper Drake helped contribute to its massive popularity, as well as the Season 3 Battle Pass. It’s also free, so that helps out the conversion rate of players to payers when you factor in cosmetic purchase and everything else the game offers that you can take part in.

Oh, and Fortnite is currently the number one-selling game on iOS in terms of the American charts. It hasn’t yet made its way to Android yet, but it’ll likely shoot to the top of the charts there too, with any luck.

When you report numbers like these, it’s nearly hard to believe that a game that started out with slightly shaky footing would be here now. And yet Fortnite is nearly a household name at this point, even for non-gamers. It’s getting widespread mainstream attention, and it’s going to grow at an exponential rate from here. Is PUBG’s reign of terror over or will both games continue to feud against each other to see who’ll emerge as the Battle Royale victor? We’ll have to wait and see how things go.
