Fortnite Players Discover New Guided Missile Bug

The Fortnite Guided Missile weapon has something of a checkered past. The weapon was removed from Fortnite by Epic Games in April of this year. At the time, players were complaining that the weapon was overpowered, and Epic Games seemed to agree. After a few months’ absence, the weapon returned in July. However, players have now discovered a rather extreme new bug with the weapon that makes it rather risky to use.

A New Bug With the Fortnite Guided Missile

A Redditor by the name of “tamzr” posted a video yesterday which showed this new bug in action. In the twenty-second clip, tamzr lands and searches a chest, finding a Guided Missile straight away. Chasing another player, he fires the weapon… only for his camera to suddenly snap around 180 degrees and the fired missile to reverse direction and hit him in the back, taking away most of his health.

The Fortnite Guided Missile Has a Unique Control Scheme

An explanation was offered by another Redditor; apparently, when the Guided Missile is fired, the weapon always fires northward rather than the direction in which players are facing. This is due to the weapon’s control scheme, which is unique among Fortnite’s different weapons. No other weapon can be controlled by a player after being fired. However, this is clearly not working as intended in every case, resulting in this bug. Epic Games themselves have yet to respond to the issue. However, the studio has released a number of patches and hotfix updates in recent weeks after the launch of Content Update v5.2. As such, it seems likely that the studio will attempt to address the bug promptly. It’s unknown, however, whether the Guided Missile will need to be removed from the game again in the meanwhile.

Players have also recently complained of a bug with the game’s traps since the recent slew of updates. In this case, however, Epic Games has acknowledged the issue. They have stated that it will be addressed in the next upcoming update. Given how quickly they responded in that case, this case is likely to be treated similarly.
