  1. There so much wrong here that I am not sure where to even start. The one thing I won't do though is talk about Blockchain and NFT games because they are terrible and the only reason to play them is be the fool that thinks you're going to make money doing so, but I want to quickly point out that if this thing is only going to run those types of games then that is a huge problem right off the bat. Still, I'll leave that on the back burner and focus on the console itself. I think I'll start with the one thing Polium has said the I actually believe, that they only have four people working on this. That's a problem as that just isn't enough people to get the basic interface design elements correct, both in terms of software and hardware, to make it user friendly for a wide verity of people. PlayStation probably employed more people than that to decide the placement of the Disk Eject button on the PS4 Pro, and they still managed to make it awkward for me, so what chance have these not-even-a-handful of idiots got? Then there's that claim they'll have games running at 8K, 120fps with HDR enabled; It makes sense that they make this claim, after all the only people stupid enough to believe that are same people who would buy into this whole NFT, Blockchain game nonsense in the first place. Maybe there is a Blockchain version of Pong out there, and if there is I'll confess they might get that to run at 8K 120 fps with HDR enabled, but suffice to say for anything else I doubt it. At the very the least it's a bullshit claim to make at this point when we know nothing about the hardware of this thing, they haven't even built a prototype yet. It's likely the console won't actually run games itself. I believe it will be like Stadia and work as a streaming device for games, but if Stadia has proven anything it's that that technology is still too young and not ready yet and it's really not ready for the kind of ambitious numbers Polium are claiming. So whatever way I look at it, they are talking out their ass. Then there's Polium's attitude. Like so many who run these NFT, Blockchain scams, they come at criticism by claiming that those people don't understand. It even appears Polium has thier own fun little acronym for these doubts, "FUD" (I don't know about the rest of the world, but here is the UK, the term "Fud" is a literal insult, I means "moron" or something to that effect). Yeah nice touch, very dignified and mature. It's actually stands for "Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt", but no Polium. We don't "Fear" this. Even at it's worst this is a scam that won't hurt people with more than half a brain, so why would we fear it? We're not "Uncertain", on the contrary we know exactly what we are talking about when we call this shit out for what it is. You wish we were uncertain, then you might actually rope us in. And we are in no "Doubt" whatsoever. Much like how NFT's and the Metaverse has doing hard over this past year, this console is going to crash and burn. Even if this stupid console did come out, by that time the entire infrastructure it's meant to work with will probably have burned down completely, and that is what people actually want. This was doomed before it even get's started. The last thing I want to touch is creatively inept this thing is, exposing even further how blatantly shallow NFT's really are. The controller is a rip of off a DualShock, the console itself is tiny, looks generic and could easily be mistaken for a Wi-Fi hub or something. Even Polium's logo itself looks strangely familiar... Ok, Nintendo, this time we'd be totally OK with you suing somebody. To be fair, Polium has already announced they plan to re-design the logo, but even so the point stands. There is no creative soul to this at all and these people do not know what the hell they're doing. Even with some of the worst products or product concepts I've seen in my life, I have always found something to praise about it, I've found something about it that makes sense, something redeemable. With this though, I have been defeated. No matter how hard I try, I cannot think of anything I like about this thing. I actually feel like a bit of an idiot just for spending so much time putting this post together, the Polium One was not worthy of this from me. It is a terrible idea convinced by terrible people made exclusively for twits who deserve to be conned to buy. Polium are going to realise too late that they are in way over thier head. This is a joke at best, a scam at worst with nothing worthwhile in between. For the love of god, if you reading this gets the chance, do not support this. Do not buy it, do not take part in any kind of crowdfund if it happens, do not even engage with Polium just to criticize them. Live your life like this thing doesn't exist.

  2. There should be a game spoiler section where people are free to debate without spoiler restrictions. That is greatly lacking. How do we talk about games we love for fear of spoilers? When I played TLOU2 I felt all alone in my opinions. It's dead now, nothing matters. Time is over. But I think there could have been great debate when people have completed legendary games like that. Some sites warn you of spoilers before preceding. This is a big issue to be able to feel free to talk about games in full extent.

  3. I do not think there is one “best” medium for storytelling, but that each has strengths and weaknesses. But what I think video games do better than other mediums is create fast empathy between the player and the character they play. What aspects of storytelling do you think games do best?

  4. I'm sure that each of our answers to this would be subjective because we all might have different reasons for considering a particular year to be the worst in video game's history. It's why I'm not going to limit the reach it's going to stretch to. If I'm going to choose, it would in 1983 which the famous video game's crash year which lasted for 2 years. The video industry would have gone into extinction if not for the Japanese gaming industry that sustained the industry.

  5. https://www.frontlinejp.net/2022/07/05/lollipop-chainsaw-remake-announced/ I never played the original game, but I heard it has a huge cult following and has a lot of fans. And from what I hear it's a pretty decent game. Now, there is word that a remake is coming. This is why I like remakes, only when they focus on a game that came out 10 years ago. Not these remakes that are dropping 2-4 years after release. Anyway, is this a buy for you? I may eventually check it out.

  6. Hardware scarcity is certainly a big deal but not specific to a single year and it didn't originate with Covid-19 (for PC users I'd daresay it was cryptocurrency mining that caused shortages.) Gaming in the UK boomed as a direct result of Covid, or more specifically, lockdown efforts. I imagine this was the same in a lot of other countries in the world. Lots of studios and their developers faced difficulties, absolutely, but I still don't think that qualifies as a worse year than the industry dying. There is certainly discussion to be had about Covid-19's impact on gaming, and I'm sure there's many interesting comparisons between the struggles now versus ~40 years ago.

  7. Remember how I said how creatively inept this idea was with how generic the console looked, the soulless nature of the concept and how even the logo itself ripped off the gamecube logo? Well it turns out it gets worse/better! The very design mock up of the console is itself a rip-off of a failed South Korean console called the Behance Oasis! This was first reported on Twitter as seen below. Here's a more detailed report and update from YongYea: I can't exactly say I'm surprised.

  8. I never really existed when the worst came around video game industry. The only season I witnessed is the ongoing covid 19 era, that has caused hardware scarcity especially with PS5.

  9. Not to shut this down, but I struggle to see see where this discussion can go (please do explain if I'm missing something here.) How does one go about measuring how worse a year can be than 1983, the collapse of an entire budding industry? 2014 would be my pick but it'd be a laughable choice because only liking one game out of over 20 that I bought on release day for review (half of which weren't worth it) is nowhere near comparable. While I'm sure people will have years with reasons deeply personal to them, I'd hardly say those moments qualify to be considered the worst in video games' history. There's discussion to be had about that, and indeed 1983 for those who want to have it, but I think you know the answer already.

  10. The OG Xbox, yeah I feel ya there. I rememeber playing it for the first time, and hated the controller and all its buttons. The black and white buttons confused me lol. I got fairly small hands myself but the Xbox 360, One and series X controllers fit perfectly in my hand. But the original Xbox controllers were a bit too hefty for me. But 360 and onwards is when they kinda perfected their controllers.

  11. Wow, Fallout New Vegas really did go all out on the slides. This is the first I ever heard of it. Almost seems generic to me but I guess if you have multiple characters with unfinished business, then that seems the easiest way to justify using them. Actually, I do remember some military games having it which I think that type of historical theme is probably the best suited for slides.

  12. Blackangel and DC: I can only speak for my self but I was planning on joining Resetera but they require a different email provider so that was out. Then I thought they must have just a shitload of stuff I may not really be interested in.So I did a Yahoo search for video game forums and VGR was one of them. I checked out a few others but chose VGR because I liked the conversations about games here.Iwas very picky about what forum I was going to join.I'm on the north side of fiddy and been playin teh vidya games over 40 years so I don't need any foolishness . I must go yell at some clouds now.(god im old)

  13. Considering that JK Rowling said that transgender people should literally be killed to wipe them off the face of the earth, I don't allow anything created by her in my house. I'm part of the LGBTQ+ community, and I won't sit by and tolerate that shit. @Rain Dew and I love each other, so I bet she's targeting lesbians as much as transgender people. @Rain Dew had found a Harry Potter game that she would have wanted, but I told her no. When I told her what Rowling had said she agreed that there was no fucking way. Rowling has also said that child porn is better than transgender. That alone should tell you all that you need to know about the worthless piece of shit.

  14. They made two announcements with 2 separate titles, neither of which seemed to fit in with the timeline of Horizon (I posted the details earlier). From what I understand it's not two separate shows but I could be wrong.

  15. I'll give you the basic run down. After the success of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag in 2012 , Ubisoft made a decision that seemed to be a great idea at the time which was to flesh this aspect out into it's own full release. Naturally to execute this the contracted the studio responsible for the naval combat sections in both Assassin's Creed III and IV, Ubisoft Singapore. Although the studio had been around for a few years developing remakes and parts of other original AAA Ubisoft titles, they had no experience of being the lead developer on new game. Despite this there be was initially a lot excitement for this project. You can check out the videos and associated articles for more details but long story short the project was mismanaged. It's gone through different directors, different concepts, multiplayer, single player, RPG, Live service and so on. It has been delayed, ripped up and rebuilt multiple times and in my opinion on the only reason it wasn't cancelled outright was because to much time and money had already been invested in it. This could have been something special. Technically it could still be and we'll have to wait for the final release to pass judgement but we have seen in the past when development is a misery, the end result isn't good either.

  16. I thought I'd share the full presentation from earlier today: It's looks fine here, but given the troubled development and this game being be basically ripped up and rebuilt several times I have my doubts to say the least.

  19. I feel they tell background stories the best. Considering games like Dark Souls, which has so many stories scattered throughout the world. It sometimes gives you another story on top of the story you're already getting. I'm not too big on reading a lot in games, but some games do it well. Plus, it's just a way to tell a bigger, grander story without having to show tons of cutscenes.

  20. Yeah Twisted Metal seems like it should have gotten a reboot/remake by now. It's been a long time coming. I mean, it looks like we're getting a TV show before an actual new game. I would've thought we'd get a new game in the series for the first time in forever, but it looks like they have to make a show instead. I remember Death Race. And yeah, it's partly what inspired Twisted Metal I imagine. It would make perfect sense.

  21. Pretty much the usual suspects, i probably woulden't have put ubisoft so high on the list and maybe leave out cd project red and replace them with rockstar but that is just me. Maybe 2k games should have been included aswell. You know let's play the advocate of the devil and say i loved Ea when i was a kid up until maybe the launch of ps4/xbox one that is were they lost it completly imo. A lot of their early games on the sega megadrive/genesis made me the gamer i am today, when you saw that electronic arts logo on a box you knew you were getting quality their box art and cartidges were also different then regulair mega drive carts so that may have been a reason too. Many of their early sega games i still have found memories of, the road rash series, the strike series, james pond trilogy, populous, lotus games and theme park just to name a few. They were also one of the first big publishers to start releasing console games aimed towards a more older audience, maybe this is a bold statement but if it wasen't for ea the sega genesis/megadrive would have never been close saleswise to the super nintendo. If we speak from a business standpoint, you gotta give it to Ea that they pretty much have a monopoly on sports games these days. While that isen't a good thing by any means it's a bloody brilliant move business wise. Take their recent example of taking over Codemasters, with aquiring them they pretty much have a monopoly on third party racing games, i've read somewhere they also aquired the Wrc license along the way so they are going to be pretty the only company putting out rally games over the next few years. Sucks but what are you going to do about it. Is Ea to blame for this yes and no, i think we should also point a finger towards greedy ass organisations like fifa, nfl, fia and nhl who want more and more money, where it is to the point it's impossible for smaller publishers to aquire the license. I think as fans of a certain sport it sucks that their are no other options avaible anymore and when you pretty much have a monopoly on a sport or genre, a company tends to get lazy because again what alternative do you have none, and those suckers are going to buy it anyway. I think an even better example that is not from ea are the wwe games by 2k, in the past you knew they were good wrestling titles but now i see them getting worse and worse each year. You do have a great alternative by getting Fire pro wrestling imo the best wrestling game ever made but sadly that game is too niche to even make a stand against a wwe game. Don't get me wrong i don't hate or like Ea, i rather see them as the company that gave me great gaming experiences when growing up rather then the company they have turned into these days. Aslong as people keep buying their yearly shit i'm afraid not much is going to change, sure they get a lot of shit for their practices but in the end all they care about how much profit have we made and you know can't blame them for it because that is the main objective of any company -> making a profit. Yeah sorry kind off went overboard a bit, there is more i want or should add but i don't want to waste anybody their time even more.

  22. I have to say that there is something very important to note with the animus storyline that has evolved into something pretty great in the latest games, even though they do show less of it. I agree the whole animus was a little confusing in past AC games, which I think most of the hate comes from. But through the whole series, that present day story with the animus is the backbone of everything. And you really don't get how meaningful it really is until you break away from the past series into a more mythical series. I'll explain best I can w/o spoilers. Most of the early Creed series is around Renaissance Italy (1400-1500's) then later events in 1700-1800's. The latest games take place from 400's BCE - 800's CE. So what is that significance? During the earlier time was the age of polytheism and later centuries was monotheism. So the animus story and ISU really adds a lot of brilliance to the plot when taking in the consideration of Gods, ISU, and modern technology. Origins wouldn't be the same w/o it; Odyssey wouldn't be the same w/o it, and Valhalla wouldn't be the same w/o it. I think that those that don't like the animus in older AC games have justification for not liking it, but need a re-evaluation in the newer games to understand its importance. How they link it all up is amazing and mind blowing.

  24. I just ran the same math for myself. I joined 950 days ago (November 28, 2019) and this here will be my 2,612th post. So that's average of 2.75 posts a day. I have had a little time off from the forum here and there and my moderating duties and updating the Game Services Threads do rob me of quite a bit of time I could spend making posts, but even so that is pretty alarming. To do 30 posts a day, I would have to try to hit that number, and I mean really try. That's not my style. I post if and when I feel I have something worthwhile to say. Whether it be something informative, in debate, advisory, funny or whatever, I could easily read about 30+ posts from others and not make a single post myself, that's just how I enjoy spending my time here. I get a lot out of this place, possibly more than I give back, and cannot imagine feeling that way whilst making 30 posts a day. Everything I say would be drowned out and bleed together and probably even forget most of it. I just couldn't do that, at least not a smaller forum like this.

  25. It's probably none of my business but I just gotta quote this so you have been here for like roughly 10 months and made over 10 000 posts in that period. That's over 1000 posts a month!!! That is like what over 30 posts a day. Come one man isen't it time to start giving it some tought you may be over doing it a bit? But anyways glad to know i contributed roughly 500 posts to the 150 000 milestone.

  26. Even tough a gimmick It was interesting at the time and from what i remember the best game that utilized the 3d tv effect was gran turismo 5 but you know after 2 hours people including myself would get a bit dizzy and most likely never used the 3d effect on their tv's again. Same with the 3ds i tought it was exellent at the time but after a couple of hours, you would just turn the 3d off. Scott The Woz did an exellent video on 3D gaming :

  29. Agreed and even though VR has its own set of problems, it's still a more enticing option than 3D TV's. That's true - Virtual Reality/Augmented reality has long surpassed the limits of 3D tech.

  30. Just wait it out or if I can borrow a gaming console/platform in the meantime, I'll just use that until the new stuff arrives. It doesn't make sense spending money on things you might not use in the long term.

  31. Agreed that 300 million seems like a fire sale price for those franchises. If Square Enix wasn't properly utilizing the IP they had, it's better off elsewhere. Every time someone mentions video games and NFTs/Blockchain in the same sentence, my eyes roll just a little bit harder.

  32. Agreed, the whole Aminus thing always felt unnecessary to me. I don't think I have ever gave a fraction of a shit about the characters or story arc's that surround it. They have thankfully been marginalising it with later releases but they really should just get rid of it completely as far as I'm concerned.

  33. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I wish AC just forgot the present completely and just be period pieces set in various times through history. I never liked the original AC games, the first one I liked was Odyssey which was the third I played after AC 1 and 2.
