    Brag about

Bragging about never crying. You can't win with people sometimes. People criticize toxic masculinity, but when you start to express that you cry while enjoying the more trivial things like video games and thus being in touch with your emotions, people sometimes call out on that even in 2022. It's like, which is it? Should I be in touch with my emotions or not? It's why I just can't deal with people anymore because they have this twisted narrative that I'm just not sure how to go along with without stepping on someone's toes. I'd rather just shut up about it most of the time.

  8. How many of you have downloaded and played the free to play games offered on various platforms? Which ones do you like? I myself have had Fortnite. It was fun for a while but the hackers ruined the experience for me altogether. Plus the Switch isn't a good platform for competitive shooter games. I tried FallGuys and it was fun but really tough to win at. I got Ninjala and have had that for a while. Didn't play much. But I've gone back to that. It's fun cuz I can beat the hell outta people. *Grins* They also added Knockout City which I'm not sure if I can manage to play it but I'm gonna try cuz it looks like fun. I also got Sky: Children of the Light. Haven't started on that yet. I've had some others but they were all shooters or Paladins.

  9. Hey everyone! Over the past years, I am so proud of how much VGR Forum has grown. We now have more than 18,000 members and more than 164,000 posts. That is all thanks to the ongoing contributions of each of you. But what really makes VGR unique is that even with our size, our core is consistent. Our dedicated members have been with us for years, and have created a warm, welcoming environment that feels like an online gaming family. We would love to keep adding to that family. So, I am asking today for you to help spread the word about VGR and invite your own family, friends and co-workers to pay us a visit and consider signing up. I just want to say thank you again to all of our loyal members! Your contributions are what have made VGR what it is today, and we look forward to getting to know the new members you introduce.

  10. Does anyone else play any fan made games and ROM-hacks? I have 3 that I play. All are Zelda games and on the SNES. Zelda: Parallel Worlds Zelda: Goddess Of Wisdom Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets Goddess Of Wisdom is so far beyond hard. I've never seen a game like it. I honestly believe that whoever created it never intended for it to be beaten. Considering that to even hit some of the bosses you're required to use a spin attack. Regular sword slashes do literally nothing. Some enemies can only be hurt by things like arrows. The bosses from Link To The Past are now used as mini bosses in the dungeons. I've been playing it for over two years, and I've only made it to the third temple. I haven't beaten it yet. I can't get through it because Vitreous is a mini boss in the third room as you enter, and the bastard is impossible to fight, let alone beat. The little eyes are now on steroids. They come at you so fast and are so strong you don't really have any time to attack. Those are the only fan made games, AKA ROM-hacks that I have. They're fun-ish. The fact that they are so damn hard takes away a good chunk of the fun. Don't get me wrong, I love a challenge. But this one is at the level of cruel with it's difficulty. You think Dark Souls was hard? It's a cake walk compared to this. And GoW isn't even the hardest one of the 3. That one reportedly goes to Parallel Worlds. I have yet to try that one, mainly because I'm already stuck in GoW. I want to at least beat the third temple before I try one of the others.

  11. Another thing I don't get is about preowned games. For example, let's say that a new copy of a game is $70. But there is a preowned copy next to it for $50. What is wrong with buying the used copy? A lot of people will look at the used copy in disgust, and waste the extra money for a used copy. I don't even know the number of games I've bought that were preowned games. It has to be in the hundreds at least. So if I want a game, and can save money by buying a preowned copy, I go for it. There's no reason not to. I go the Dark Pictures Anthology: House Of Ashes recently that was a used copy, and it was about half the price of a new one. DPA is an awesome series. I already had Little Hope, and Man Of Medan. Great games.

    Free Games

Marvel Heroes 2016 was free when it was still around, which was one of the reasons it was one of the best superhero games for me because, for a free game, it had a decent storyline and decent gameplay. It had a few problems, especially in regards to people stealing your kills and you have to wait for the drops to spawn again, but that's to be expected from a free online game. The only thing that I paid for was the costumes, and they were amazingly designed because of the different famous voice actors hired for each costume, with my favorite being Christopher Daniel Barnes reprising his role as the Symbiote Spider-Man from the '90s cartoon. I also remember playing Marvel Future Revolution for a while during its initial release, but got bored quickly and forgot about it. I've also played Uno Online on CrazyGames.com, which is a decent time-killer and very addictive, but I feel like most of the opponents were bots... Tried my hands on Pokémon Showdown and Pokémon: Trading Card Game Online. The former is just not for me because you really need to be an expert on Pokémon moves to win. The latter, I've played it for about a few years at least. It's very addictive, especially because of the theme decks and how you could just use them to win matches easily in Theme Matches. It's a shame that they haven't bothered to release new theme decks for a long time now. I might download it again if there's ever a new deck in the future.

  15. Well it's a continuous event so I think you could without any issue. I think you could include Scottish, International, European and other leagues in the same thread without confusion. I'm not trying to take a dump on this interest, I'm actually trying to help. Spreading multiple leagues and tournaments over multiple topics will only result in most (if not all) of them flaming out. Having one or two threads dedicated to the discussion will keep active for longer if not indefinitely.

The Mass Effect trilogy, specifically Mass Effect 2. I love games where the players' choices have very clear impacts on the plot (instead of the cheap "we mention your choices but it's irrelevant to the plot"). Mass Effect 2 had quite a few important choices that get carried over to the third game, specifically your decision on the genophage cure and killing or rewriting the heretic Geths. Your squad mates who didn't survive the suicide mission also don't appear in the third game, but I feel like that's kinda a superficial consequence because squadmates appearing won't affect the plot as significantly as the above two options I mentioned, and your sacrifice of those squad mates for whatever reasons wouldn't get questioned. But such a game mechanic is also why I love Detroit: Become Human, because it has dozens of unique and distinct endings very different from one another depending on your choices. I feel like a lot of studios that want to do games where "choices matter" could learn a lot from Quantic Dream's design for DBH.

  23. Ironically, I only played ROM-hacks to decrease the difficulty of a certain franchise: Pokémon. All Pokémon readily available on a single version without trading, easy IV/Egg Move-breeding and EV-edit. I've also played Pokémon: Ash Gray that was a really cool hack that faithfully adapted the entire plot of the Indigo Stadium saga from the first season of the anime. It's far faithful than Pokémon Yellow, right down to reenacting entire scenes from the anime. Such a great tribute for fans who grew up with the anime. Unfortunately, it never got finished past the Orange Islands, but thankfully, it was completed till the point where you revitalize Charizard the way Ash did to win his trust. There were also a few other Pokémon hacks I played for the interesting story, such as the Pokémon Adventures hacks that finally brought the far superior story of the manga to the games. I don't think those were completed either, which is a shame, because I could see them as successful JRPGs of their own with the unique and emotional storylines.

  24. I’d disagree about it being more of a WRPG problem than a JRPG problem. A large chunk of JRPG’s tend to have one ending and that’s it. You could have been super lucky with only playing ones with multiple endings, but most of the big ones have just a singular ending. Franchises like Final Fantasy, Dragon Wuest, Tails, Ys, Legend of Heroes, etc, have one ending.

  25. Tbh, I feel like people tend to misuse terminology with the Water Temple. It’s tedious, and not hard. You are just restricted access to rooms because of either the water level, lack of keys, or the lack of the long shot. It’s not like it takes skill to raise/lower the water level, or just come back with a key or long shot. I always see people calling anything that takes longer than usual as hard, despite it not really taking effort. I can beat the Water Temple without a guide as I use the same tactic you do, but some of the backtracking is a pain, but that doesn’t make it difficult. The part that throws people off is the chest with the key in the basement of the central tower people easily forget about.

  26. I'm just the opposite. The shadow and spirit temples are extremely easy. The spirit temple is actually my favorite temple in the game. As for pissing anyone off, fuck em. Everyone has different capabilities, experiences, and play styles. You find the water temple easy. Awesome! I find it a major bitch, especially since I'm trying to get all the gold skulltulas as well. As for the bongo playing penis, that's one trick I hope no man has. I would turn and run if a guy was doing that. especially if two appendages suddenly appeared. My thought on that: GENITAL WARTS FROM HELL

  27. I've heard endless complaints about the Water Temple in OoT and at risk of pissing some people of, I've never seen what all the fuss is about. By my recollection all you really have to do is sink to bottom, explore every accessible room, raise the water level, rinse and repeat. Sure you are punished with some pain in the ass backtracking if you miss something but if you just follow that pattern that won't happen. I always remember the Spirit Temple being more complicated and the Shadow Temple being more of a mindfuck, I mean the final boos is literally a bongo playing penis with disembodied hands!

  28. Another thing, is a mental game. All too often, people think that price equals quality. If one game is $30, and another game is $70, they think the $70 game is better than the $30 game. That's not true at all. Maybe the $70 is more popular, but the $30 game is hands down better in the eyes of the gaming community. Still they go for the most expensive because they trust the developers, when we all know is a fools errand. It's ignorance, gullibility, stupidity, and being easily manipulated, all rolled into one gamer. And it's done over and over and over again.

  30. To be fair, you're not exactly wrong. The key is Z in Oblivion - you could just change it to E like in Skyrim.

  32. The only thing that Skyrim on Switch had going for it was the fact that you could play it on the go as a portable version of the game, and the most critical word in that sentence was "had", as in past tense. With the emergence of portable gaming PC's like the Aya Neo and the Steam Deck, these ports on Switch don't really have that going for them anymore. So somebody at Nintendo and/or Bethesda thought it would be great idea to make the Switch port even less appealing than it already was by jacking up the price?
