  1. People that you game with and the community that you may have built with the people and mates that you meet πŸ™‚ Can't bet that end of the day knowing that the people that you known for years are always going to stick with you.

  2. Recently news broke of Crash Bandicoot: On The Run, a F2P mobile game in the runner genre, would be closing down in Feb. 2023. When that date arrives, the game will become entirely unplayable, as it requires a connection to the servers in order to be played. Obviously, that's a rather small and niche title, but there's large games that use this approach too. Overwatch is entirely online, and when the sequel launched the original game was entirely closed down, leaving nothing from it in a playable state. Even single player games with a multiplayer component will have part of the experience lost forever when the servers are closed for those games, of which I'm sure everyone here can think of at least one example without me giving any. While there are plenty of ways to preserve old games, whether it be through digital copies, emulation, etc. all of those games are offline experiences. But when it comes to games that rely on a server connection, how can those games be preserved at all when they become unplayable without the server? The best you can do is keep the game files on your PC/mobile/console, but I don't consider that preserving those games for history when you can't play them to see what they were like. I suppose YouTube videos could be made of the gameplay, but I'm sure even in the most popular games with an online element don't have every single thing in them extensively documented and recorded so we'd lack a complete picture of the experience. So do you think anything can be done when it comes to preserving online-only games, or games that feature an online component that will eventually be turned off?

    Hitman VR

I think the cheapest headset on the market is probably the Meta Quest 2. The 128gb model for example is $399. But if you want anything better, it's going to cost even more I imagine.

  4. I do agree that it was one of the best communities back in the days. The people were so helpful. To be fair, the Call Of Duty community has always had the toxicity and it seems to be prevalent in FPS communities. If you say anything critical about it, the community's fanboys act like you disrespected their cult...🀣

  5. I do have to agree that I've learned way more from the bad experiences and they've really helped me out when I run into tough situations in life. How to stay calm rather than always panic when everything's going wrong.

  7. Cryptocurrency is not in its infancy, it is in its death throes. And I will open a bottle of champagne when it finally dies off. Crypto is inherently wasteful, and using it for such small transactions is completely impractical anyway. It takes days for a transaction to register and get approved on the blockchain. And the volatility makes it useless as a common currency for people outside of speculators. Nobody in their right mind should keep their hard earned cash in cryptocurrency. So then what would be the point of converting your actual currency to crypto before buying a gaming item?

  8. The only community where I get called every single thing in the book alongside my mom. Honestly the Final Fantasy 14 community was great! I had joined a guild where people were willing to help me and explain things to me. I have not played in a long time, so don't know how that community is going nowadays. I also am not in the server on Discord anymore.

  9. Look what happened to music. Who buys a cd anymore? It went from records, to tapes, to cd's, to illegally streaming and lawsuits, to full embrace of digital music. Movies went from VHS, to DVD, to Red Box rentals and elimination of all other rental places. Movie theaters almost lost it during Covid. And more and more people are streaming their shows and movies. Consoles have gone from cartridges, to disc, to streaming and selling digital only consoles as a sort of cheaper alternative to full disc drive. Even VR headsets are digital only. And since VR is the future, that's an indication that gaming will become pure digital. That is not a good business strategy because we are all at the mercy of our internet speeds, number of gigabytes allowed, satellites, inclement weather, bad Wifi, and whatever other problems in the internet world will challenge digital only sales and downloads of gaming. If you move, travel, can't afford internet, you will never be able to access your games. Digital only gaming will also ruin the collector's world of gaming unless you collect the old stuff. But everything will get old one day. How will you show off your games, consoles, art work? Art will end up being NFT's. People will spend money in the digital world without actually owning anything. Living in the future, how will you play or purchase any old games from an older generation when all the servers get shut down permanently as the industry spurs on your purchasing power for the newer stuff without giving you a choice! I do see the gaming world heading in that direction. And it sucks! I think competitors will be important in those gloomy days when your choices become extremely limited and the only availability of games is priced sky high. What usually happens, is that starting out, the prices will be cheap for the digital alternative to reel you in there. Then once they own you, they cut off all your options and force you to pay high prices and subscriptions. Then those suppliers get bought off and bought off till there is very little competition left. Or, you will be forced to pay multiple subscriptions to play different games. And that I see happening too.

  10. I hope it doesn't happen, since I prefer physical media over digital for most of my games. Plus I can't see a good reception to consoles that are solely streaming or digital with no way to preserve your library or purchases.

    Hitman VR

Hitman is one of the games I want to try in VR, just because it looks like it'd be so much more fun to play in. Standard Hitman is fun stuff too, but in VR it's gotta be a blast. Hitman is the type of game you'd expect VR to one day be supported too, so I'm glad it happened. More Hitman VR please. :)

  13. Obviously the Call of Duty community! πŸ˜› Nah, I kid. πŸ˜› I'm a part of many gaming communities, while running one myself, it's hard to say which one would be considered 'the best' though.

  14. What are your other contenders? The other place I wouldn't mind being uploaded to would be a non-fascist, non-racist, irreligious version of Columbia from BioShock Infinite. I want to live in a sky city with equality for all. Also, I don't think immortality would be a problem, but boredom would. But if the universes in question were continually evolving and added to, it might not be an issue. And I assume we get to hang out with other real people after we are uploaded? If so, that should solve a large chunk of the boredom problem.

  15. So this is basically a Matrix question? Aren't we already doing that? I mean the only difference I can see from your question is that we choose the world we would live in. If it's my option, it would easily be Hyrule. The N64 Ocarina Of Time version. My personal favorite. It's an extremely laid back world, as long as Ganon is kept in check. There is one other option that comes to mind for me. The world of FF8. I've always wanted to live in Fisherman's Horizon (FH). It seems to be so laid back. Quiet. Calm. Peaceful. If that wasn't an option, the only other town I would want to live in would have to be Winhill. RDR2 does have a foot in this race, but that's just because there are so many cabins and shacks to choose from.

  16. At least one thing I do know is that no matter how much money they throw at them, Microsoft will NEVER be able to buy Nintendo. Not only because Nintendo Co. Ltd has no direct owner (the current president is the great grandson of the founder) but because they could never afford it. Microsoft would have to go bankrupt 10 times over at least. Not to mention that they were laughed out of Nintendo for trying to buy it once already. Nintendo was founded in 1889 as a playing card company. Their history stretches back further than the mere existence of both Sony and Microsoft combined. While Nintendo is only worth $54.49 billion (which is easily in Microsoft's budget) to sell to them Nintendo would demand 100 times their net worth to even consider it. With the introduction of PlayStation and Xbox into the gaming market, Nintendo's net worth dropped DRASTICALLY. All that said, they would refuse to sell. Their philosophy seems to be that bankruptcy is better than selling out. Companies have attempted to purchase Nintendo before, though none have come close to a successful deal with the Japanese company. In 1999, Microsoft attempted to purchase Nintendo (only a couple of years before Xbox would hit the market). According to Bloomberg, two executives approached Nintendo with an offer: Microsoft would acquire Nintendo, and while Nintendo would continue to create games, Microsoft would manufacture all of the company's hardware. "We actually had Nintendo in our building in January 2000 to work through the details of a joint venture where we gave them all the technical specs of the Xbox," former head of business development Bob McBreen said. "But it didn’t work out." "They just laughed their a--es off," former Microsoft third-party relations head Kevin Bachus told Bloomberg. "Like, imagine an hour of somebody just laughing at you. That was kind of how that meeting went." While other companies have attempted to purchase Nintendo over the years, the Japan-based video game company continues to hold its own and has refused any attempt to be purchased by other developers β€” and with the success Nintendo has seen with the Switch, it seems like that won't change anytime soon. 17. Hi Killamch89 hope your well mate! πŸ™‚ I completely get your point mate and dont disagree with you in the slightest, i was saying in one of the posts i quoted that i would want an expiry date, as no matter what world you are uploaded into, you would eventually have seen everything and would inevitably get bored, so i stated that i would have a max life span of 1000 years (same as an Asari lifespan from mass effect) but with a kill switch or kill word that i could use if ive had enough, basically digital suicide! πŸ™‚ so yeah mate i get your point about immortality. Also as to the emotions issue, there are so many variables and possible difficulties when talkin about un invented tech, that we could chew the fat for hours just on that subject alone lol but for the sake of this topic we are just gonna pretend that the technology has been invented to be able to copy the complete human psyche, emotions and all, so a complete digital copy of you and your traits! Like i say mate i know its far fetched and we could list the possible problems with this tech, but just for fun lets say it exists! πŸ™‚ its more , but-about if you would go for it and if so would you want any rules to be factored into your upload, like my 1000 year max life span for example and also what world/character you would want uploading to! But yeah mate if its not something you would be up for then that's valid too, as it would not be for everyone and would defo cause controversy! πŸ™‚ Hey Stacey, i hope you are well! πŸ™‚ Yes mate it is very interesting, ive sat and thought about this idea numerous times and still cant decide 100% on where i would be uploaded, but yeah Mass Effect is my strongest contender and yes mate defo be myself and all your memories would be uploaded as it would be an exact digital copy of your psyche, warts and all! πŸ™‚

  18. The historical stigma of Bill Gates always trying to monopolize different tech sectors has never been a good thing. He did it in the 90s with the software industry and now he’s trying it again with the video game industry. One thing that Wall Street Millennial didn’t mention is the seldom possibility of Microsoft trying to buy Sony. I can’t ever see that happening but that would have the greatest ripple effect in the video game industry, larger than Atari. I’m not rooting for Microsoft at all. Monopolies are never a good thing for prices and competition.

  19. That is another issue with digital only games and the platforms we use them on. Look at older consoles like the 360 and PS3. Though they are still kind of supported, in that you should be able to download every game you have purchased over your accounts life. But the problem is that at some point these services may one day die. If PlayStation stopped their services, who's to say we'll be able to download those games again, or to even play them. Some games may require you to be online or use the consoles service like PSN or XBL.
