Family sedan reacted to The Blackangel in Game music
I love most video game music. Some is so monotonous and repetitive that it just becomes an "ear sore", if you will. If the music changes up somewhat regularly, or is a specifically pleasing tune, then I'm all for it.

I wouldn't mind an infinite storage inventory at all - it's such a pain having to pack so many things into different bags/storage containers to carry them.

So true - the very definition of a gamer is open to interpretation as well as what one person may consider true gaming another may consider casual.

People have been making jokes about this forever.
Like how you could just kill something and a chest full of gold would magically pop up in its place. Or like, being able to keep and have access to a million different things at all times by just putting them in your "inventory."

I think anyone who could not do much time and depth for the game and the gaming narratives, is into this category. Mostly people who don't go deep in games are in this.

well yeah, but people don't understand that, they think that you being online means having lot of free time on hand when they surely don't know that you are dealing with other things

I remember seeing Pet Rocks on the shelves. I always wondered why in the hell I would buy that when I could pick one up in my yard and paint a goofy face on it. But those damn things sold like crazy.
I guess crack was a lot more popular back then.

Same, I'm more than a casual gamer but not quite a hardcore gamer (at least, I don't consider myself that). I play plenty of games and I know a lot about them but at the same time, if someone doesn't like a certain game that I regularly play, I'll never really get offended because everyone has different experiences with different games.

One thing that definitely was a glitch and not my fault was when my car was leaving pit road in NASCAR '11 The Game and with about 500 feet to go on pit road my car magically transfers itself from the pit lane to the track. There's no way that was my fault.

Family sedan reacted to Shagger in Photo Mode, A New Form of Artwork?
I downloaded the images from my Facebook account and found a lot of photo mode images, mostly from Horizon Zero Dawn, but a couple from Uncharted 4 as well that I'd forgotten about. This is as good a place as any to share them, so feel free to comment on this gallery. I'm hosting if on Imgur to avoid flooding the forum with an absurd amount of images, but I'll post a couple of my favourites.

Family sedan reacted to Reality vs Adventure in Photo Mode, A New Form of Artwork?
This is AC Origins I played tonight. This picture says a lot. You have an assassin in armor a foot away from a vulnerable flamingo. And it sits there in the water knowing it can spread its wings any moment. And to get this close I have never experienced in wildlife in any game. His hands are raised like it's gonna strangle it. The assassin is dangerous, but he is curious and so is the flamingo. When humans interact with wildlife. What happens next is up to the human. Since I'm controlling Bayek, I respect its life. I left in black and white because color is even more dramatic. You saw it here first in case someone wants to claim it. I took a hundred pictures in this moment. I love this stuff. They created it. I caught it.

Family sedan reacted to Shagger in Photo Mode, A New Form of Artwork?
I've just seen a very interesting article from BBC Culture exploring the idea of photo modes in video games being used as a tool to create artwork. Not specifically a game's aesthetic design itself, but the use of Photo Mode to create works of art individually.
I've said it before and, even though I'm sure it's not a popular opinion, I'll still stand by the idea that a video game cannot be a work of art itself. I say that because for something to be art it has to have no purpose other than itself, no function. A video game has a function. It's not just entertainment, it's a challenge. A test of reflexes, strategy, teamwork and so on. There's art to be found in a game's make up with writing, design art etc, but the game itself is not a form of art.
However, I can totally get behind this notion of a game's photo made being a legitimate tool to create works of art. It makes sense to me in the same way art photography does and I feel it has a lot of potential. I think the infamously pretentious art world isn't ready to start displaying gaming screenshots in galleries and you just know (at least some) game companies will make it difficult for anyone who tries by means of copyright law (although I would describe a screenshot as a transformative work). Still it's nice to see at least some consideration of the idea coming through and taken seriously.
What do you think?

Family sedan reacted to Steerminator in Casual gamer
I think its obviously kind of subjective. There's a whole spectrum of "degrees of enjoyment of/time invested into video games." But in general, I think that's really what it mostly boils down to: The higher your level of enjoyment, and the more amount of time you choose to invest in video games, the more hardcore you are. The less your level of enjoyment and amount of time you invest, the more casual you are (This is all assuming you're doing it for fun and not for some kind of job like being a video game tester).

it varies from a person to another, for me, a casual gamer is a gamer that's not a fanboi, enjoys games, has respect to all platforms and knows that fun is what matters.

Family sedan reacted to Steerminator in When you lose a fight, is it your instinct to blame yourself or the game?
It could go either way, but I think I'm generally inclined to think that since there is always a way to get through something, its my job to figure out what that way is (or figure out A way, if there's more than one). To be honest though, there are many times when I spend time wondering if a game is doing something wrong or unfairly or not, or cheating me somehow. Personally I think its not always clear.

My sentiments exactly - sometimes it really is the game's fault. I'll take responsibility for me messing up by myself but when the game mechanics is the one that caused the failure, then I'll blame the game.

Depending on the situation, it could be either. If it was because of my direct actions that I lost a fight, I'll blame myself. However, if it's something unnatural like glitching that killed me, I'll blame the game.

Family sedan got a reaction from Steerminator in Does anyone else dread/worry about not being able to play old games?
You're going to hate me for saying this, but I've had the same PS2 since I believe 2001. I was a sophomore in high school when my parents got it for me.

It’s a statue in an abandoned cemetery. I used it in a video I made and put on YouTube.

Family sedan got a reaction from killamch89 in What game have you been playing forever without finishing?
Thanks for the advice. I'm actually a really hard core gearhead, I watch all kinds of motorsports, I've been playing GT since about 1999. I know about the out-in-out method if that's what you mean. You can also diamond corners, or you can just run the high line. Mostly I'll use the out-in-out method, but if I'm struggling I will search around. As for luck, I like to leave nothing to chance if I can. Some try to beat GT games with no mods, but in my mind that just leaves too much too chance for me to feel comfortable.

I once heard a teenage boy say almost 25 years ago that if you buy the wrong console "your mother wants to be gay." So if you buy the wrong console that makes it your fault your mom is gay. My hometown was usually smarter than that, but the late '90's were apparently the nadir of Eastern Massachusetts. This was back when I was in New England.

Family sedan reacted to skyfire in Do you feel like gaming is a luxury or a necessity in your life?
I think mix of both. I am not much investing into new things and take time before those devices mature. so definitely not a luxury but I do get them eventually so mix of both.
